Hi,

DH and I have always had a few communications issues. I am no good at confrontation and things just go unsaid from my side which has caused build up of frustration. Add having 2 DC, 3 and 5, together with 2 busy jobs and a MMC (early) miscarriage in February (Unplanned but wanted by me- not particularly by DH) which has resulted in low mood and possible mild depression (me).

Though for years our communication has been crap and had thought about going for counselling or whatever helpful. Had a discussion recently and admitted things not good so counselling an option.

Is relate the best option or is a "normal " counselor better or just depend. Presume we need to pay so helpful to find out what has helped others?

There are no "major" issues like unfaithfullness to my knowledge and he is an OK husband so feel a bit ridiculous posting in relationships where people are a lot worse off. Apologies if self indulgent.

Sorry you're feeling a bit low OP. I was in a similar position and we tried Relate. It depends who you get but our therapist was quite good and did drag out some issues to work on in only one session (our main problem was communication) . It can be quite a gruelling process but most people find it useful. Good luck Smile

My advice is to get yourselves any advice available! I split up with ex husband to be with a more exciting man. The exciting man has dumped me and I now have space to reflect on how hastily I threw away a dull but functioning marriage. I do believe that counselling would have helped ex husband and me to talk more and revive the marriage. Thus would have saved a lot of heartache. Children and work put you under a lot of pressure. Your question is not self indulgent, it is important that you work out what you really want. I wish you luck.
