Abusive relationships / domestic violence section?

Hello,

Is there are section anywhere on MN for those in abusive relationships? I can't seem to find one and I'm looking for support for my step daughter who isn't likely to phone for help or go to counselling. So I'm hoping the anonymity of a web forum will encourage her to seek help and take advice from others.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sometimes it is hard to step into a forum that has been going for a while...she could PM me if she would like. I am 42 and 5 months out of a 14 year relationship with an emotionally, verbally, financially, and somewhat physically abusive man.

She could just start a thread in this forum, even a browse through other threads will show her many other women in the same position.

Thank you foolonthehill, that is really kind of you. I'm sorry to hear abotu your relationship and very pleased you're out of it, I wish you well. I shall let her know but I don't think she'd take the offer up (I may be wrong, I hope so) I don't think she is ready to admit it to herself yet. I'm hoping that reading about others with similar problems will make her 'see sense', realise that it's not normal etc which she knows it isn't but he's just worn her down. She is 20 and has been controlling her. In a nutshell last year she dared defy him so he beat her up and put her in hospital. She dropped any charges and got back together with him. A few months ago she broke up with him. He stalked her and made her life so difficult she again went back to him. Now she has started a new job, made new friends, he's losing control again and threatening her. We can all see it's only a matter of time until he flips again. I can imagine she is very scared and frightened of leaving him (I'd imagine he's threatened horrible things if she does) but she cannot stay with him and have no life. It's a catch 22. All we can do is suggest the obvious sources of help which fall on deaf ears
