Online Dating - is it normal for guys to ask stuff like this?

So I talk to this guy one day and the next he asks if we can meet up. I thought this was a little quick but I'm told it's better this way rather than messaging for months so I agreed to meet him next week.

Since then he's been a bit - pushy?

He's asked me stuff like
"Would you have more children with the right person?" err bit soon to be thinking along those lines, surely??
"Are you an affectionate person?" no actually, I'm a hard hearted bitch, you ok with that?

And a few other things in this kind of vein. Ok so he's maybe just trying to work out what I'm all about but I feel he's a bit full on considering we've not yet met and have only been messaging a few days? Or is it me that's being odd here?

Oh, he'd annoy me. I met DP through Online dating back in September, and I didn't fuck about with too much contact before meeting because I'd been dating for a while and didn't want to go back and forth for it to materialise into nothing. We met and have been together ever since, I knew from the moment meeting him.

However, this dude you're conversing with, would outright fuck me off with his messages minutes between eachother.

I think the excessive messages would start to ring a few alarm bells though.

maleview70 · 07/04/2012 17:19

Read that bit about the messages again.

Can't you see where this would be in 2/3 months if you are in a relationship and having a night out with friends.

9pm....you having a good night?

9.10pm....how's your night?

9.15....thinking about you...

9.30....??????

9.45....why no reply?

Etc...etc

He sounds a dickhead. Avoid

CoEmLibs34 · 07/04/2012 17:38

I think its unfair to judge this guy!
Ok he is being a bit over the top. You dont have to reply? Personally I would say hey chill out with your messages as yes this would put me off but I guess we all handle situations differently.
I think alot of these guys are wanting to meet someone and appear a little desperate which is quite sad.
Go with your gutt instinct, if you decide to meet, meet for coffee and you will be able to tell within minutes.

well now you give us the whole story, then yes that would piss me right off. sounds toooooo insecure and needy.

Fanty · 07/04/2012 19:12

Please. Cancel. At best hes just onely, but its pretty insincere, you havent met and is quite stalky!!

solidgoldbrass · 07/04/2012 19:28

He sounds desperate, so bin and move on. Remember rule one of online dating - you don't owe anyone anything and it's fine to cut people right off if you don't fancy the idea of them.

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 07/04/2012 20:17

Um... Is it possible he sent that sort of repeat text to you in error, thinking it was three differed women?
Hmmm. Although that doesn't really help Ny... I met my lovely dh through newspaper ads (steam powered internet, back in the day...). On my experience, first set of circs wouldn't put put me off. Second DEF would. Cancel, you know you want to!

janelikesjam · 26/10/2012 21:52

I would have said "no" to meeting straight up after his stupid questions (though I do have a natural curiosity that somehow gets me into deep water Blush). Asking if you are affectionate? Impertinent and rather stupid question. In internet dating language I think it can also mean "up for it" (unless he is stupidly naieve). And agree with mirroring idea - girlies are all meant to be affectionate and want children aren't we Angry so could be priming you in some icky way.

The text stuff. Simply bonkers.

Really keep away from this one.

janelikesjam · 26/10/2012 21:55

P.S. Having done some internet dating myself, I am a great believer in talking on the phone asap, rather than meeting. A voice can tell you an awful lot about someone IMO. I always have an excuse ready in case they sound awful and I do not want to chat for long. If they pass the phone test then I would meet ....

This thread is from April how did you find it janlikesjam?

janelikesjam · 26/10/2012 22:03

gawd knows Blush. Anyway, I hope she didn't waste her time with him.

Trills · 26/10/2012 22:05

It doesn't matter if it's normal for people to ask stuff "like this".

The question is whether you would want to date someone who asked stuff "like this".

If the answer is no, then ditch them.

If the answer is maybe, keep talking.

CuriousMama · 26/10/2012 22:17

I know I wonder what happened? I met dp online but met a few oddballs before him.

mameulah · 26/10/2012 22:50

My DH and I met online and after our first date we were very straightforward about what we were both looking for out of our relationship. It didn't feel weird or pushy.

If it feels weird or pushy then I would leave it. That texting thing he did gives me the creeps.
