Childhood question - witnessing domestic violence

I have a question for people who witnessed domestic violence when they were children. Do you remember all of it?

I know that I witnessed DV. I can remember sounds, the police coming round, the fear, feeling isolated. I can remember the way our house looked after my stepdad had lost his temper.

I can't remember my mum's face at that time. I know he broke her jaw at one point, so I'm sure that she had facial injuries. It's only just occurred to me (at the grand age of 40 - over 20 years later) that I can't remember her face. Is this common? I feel like I have been robbed of something else, quite apart from confidence, trust, self esteem and so on.

I did not witness dv but was very badly abused as a child. Some things I can remember, some I was reminded of by someone once and then remembered them. I guess my memories are as sketchy as yours in their way... I think memory is a big topic and so is abuse, but whatever you remember, o you need to talk about it? I saw a trainee counselor for ages, that was brilliant. I don't think about the nuts and bolts of it much anymore.
