Anyone with "Orange" and know how their online accounts work?

Doing a bit of digging on OH and have just looked at his mobile history on his Orange account. It's showing that he used GPRS (internet) on his phone practically every hour throughout the night last night and has done on a number of occasions.

For instance last night he was on it 9.30pm, 11pm, 12am, 1.20am, 2.30am, 3.40am and 4.50 (at this point he would have got up for work).

Is it normal for orange to say he's been online all night like that? see what's weird is if he was at home, he'd be using the wifi anyway so why is he using mobile internet all night?

If he has set up something on his phone that automatically does an update, then it could easily be showing as the phone being used, when it isnt actually "physically" being used, if that makes sense.

My phone for example, will automatically "pull data" ie emails every 30 minutes.

TheRocks · 28/12/2011 15:24

Ah yeah, good point Squeaky. He does have football texts etc set up so could well have something else going through the night.

I'll assume innocent on that one then.

Agree with squeaky, sounds like an update. My emails automatically come in every couple of hours

NewBikeForChristmas · 28/12/2011 18:10

If he has Facebook on his phone, it could be updates from FB friends coming in. If I don't turn my phone off before bed, I am kept awake all night by my friends in USA and Japan updating their status.

JackMatthias · 28/12/2011 19:16

I'm with Orange on PAYG and I deliberately put my phone onto 'airplane mode' at night precisely for the purpose of stopping it automatically searching for updates and wasting my bandwidth tariff that way. Sounds innocent enough to me...

It can also be a very costly mistake to make when you go on holiday too.. as I found out a couple of years ago!

I agree with the others about the technical sideo f things.....

what I am wondering is what you are thinking about to check his phone like this? do you have a niggle that something is going on?

Am telecoms engineer so can verify what's said below.

Also sometimes broadband can be unreliabke so iPhone or similar will switch to 3G.

Is there a reason for checking? Sad

TheRocks · 29/12/2011 14:43

Reason - mostly inappropriate contact with a young woman on facebook but I also noticed a text message to an unknown number on Christmas day wishing someone a happy christmas with x on the end. To text someone on Christmas day, they must be a pretty good friend. Wouldn't you have their number saved in contacts??

Ah well, bottom like is I don't trust him.

Agree it's strange not to have number saved.

An 'x' by itself is not necessarily anything to worry about, I know lots of folk who use it on most messages.

I would make a note of the number if you can.

Ring it a couple of times, see who answers. Try and blag it a bit, and find out who it is.
