How to take nude photos for husband?

Does anyone have any practical tips?

My husband has always openly liked artistic shots of naked women (draped, modest, black and white, usually just feminine shapes shot from behind), though doesn't really look at them in front of me. Last week, with no especial prompting, I suddenly got a bit upset about this (body still rather flabby a year on from giving birth- I think that's the real reason) and asked him why he liked these photos and not ones of me. To which he reasonably replied that he doesn't have any of me.

So I rashly asked if he would like some and he all too enthusiastically said yes. And wants to take them himself. So- who's done this? Any advice?

These are the things I've gleaned from photography sites:

  • black and white is best
  • simple background is essential (a sheet, a chair)
  • less revealing = sexier
  • take loads and loads of photos to increase your chances of getting decent ones
  • use make-up to cover up blemishes, c-section scars, etc. to give you more confidence

Any encouraging stories, warnings, advice and tips greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm a professional photographer, and my absolute no.1 bit of advice is that lighting is everything. Hard light shows every bump and wrinkle, soft light flatters & hides. The best sort of light for this is actually window light, but not too harsh & sunny (shouldn't be a problem at this time of year). Posing to hide your best bits and hide the worst bits is the next step, and it's basically common sense(ish). For example if you've got problem thighs or tummy then a strategically placed arm will hide the problem. Boobs are a problem when lying down - big ones fall out to the sides, small ones disappear. Don't overdo the makeup, and basically relax - if you try too hard it shows. I agree it's best to leave something to the imagination. Have fun, it should be a laugh for both of you. Wine helps Smile

It might be a bit late for Christmas but lots of people go for 'boudoir' photo shoots and give the results in a little album or something as an extra present. Most boudoir photographers are women although there is an argument that if you're taking pictures for a man then you should get a man to do them - I'm not sure it matters either way. It's worth googling Boudoir Photography for ideas if nothing else.

Good luck, have fun!
