If I split with my DH, where would I live?

We are renting and I have no family or friends to stay with. I also work full time and we have a six year old son at school ..... I dont even know where to start looking for a place for us to live!!

I would rather move out than fight to get him to move out.

Any suggestions?

If you are working full-time, you will need to find another private let to rent. Why not look at Gumtree in your area for starters.

Contact CAB and see what you are entitled to re housing.
It might be that you could rent privately and recieve some HB to pay some most/all the rent.

If you're renting already that helps as you can get refs from them to give a new landlord. You need to borrow or save the deposit and first months rent for a few place, as you are earning you should be okay on credit checks that letting agents do.

Whether you could get some HB towards your rent depends on what your income is. You can try looking at your local council's website, sometimes they have entitlement calculators for things like HB and council tax benefit. Also look at entitledto.com, and definitely book an apt with a CAB advisor.

I found my current private let (after splitting with an arsehole of an XP who owned house we lived in) on findaproperty.com, I think. Rightmove also has lets as well as properties to buy, have a search and see what prices in your area are like and what you can afford in terms of bedrooms on your current income.

You could be entitled to a council property but there are usually long waiting lists for one, so don't assume that will happen but concentrate on whether a private let is viable and start checking prospective lets.
Good luck! :)
