I'm fed up of all the cliques....

This is just a rant really - not expecting any replies.

It's just there seems to be a clique everywhere I go and I'm just not involved in any of them. There's one at the school, one at baby and toddler group, one at breastfeeding group, hell, even my sil has her own clique. And I'm not involved in any of them.

The thing that has pissed me off is that there is an organisation around here that have organised a Christmas party for under 5's. I got a letter about it, put it away and forgot about it. Then weeks ago sil said the last day to get the ticket to the xmas do was the following day, due to one thing and another I never got to the office to get a ticket so just presumed we (ds2 and I) wouldn't be going. However I was talking to another mum at school today and the cut off date to get tickets is tomorrow!!! I briefly mentioned it to sil and she said 'yeah it says that on the ticket!' so why didn't she tell me that before now?? She's had her ticket for weeks!! So I'm going to go and see this other mum and get a ticket, we WILL go to the party!

Anyway sorry for the rant, all steam has been let off now but if you got this far thanks for reading.

odd sil. Can't see why that's cliquey though. Is she trying to cut you out?

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 29/11/2005 16:51

I understand your frustration in a way but presumably it just didn't occur to your SIL to remind you about the party (why should it?). Why didn't you just get tickets when you first had the letter?

moondog · 29/11/2005 16:54

????
What did sil do wrong??

Cliques exist less often than you think they do (from what little I notice-I'm usually enjoying the peace of not being harassed by anyone!)

ThomCat · 29/11/2005 16:57

Said this before but what is a clique? It's just a group of women who have gotten friendly with each other. All you have to do is be friendly and contribute to conversations and bewfore you know it people will be saying the same opf you! If tou want to be a paret of theri chatty group - CHAT to them, if you don't then that's great. You'll never get to know these perfectly normal people, just like you if you build up a wall, imagine this thing called a clique and walk past them and make yourself feel left out.

Sorry, the SIl and other situations may be different and I'm not having a go, I just think the whole clique thing is a figment of people imagination half the time.

When I first did the school thing it seemed everyone knew each other and I was the odd one out and not part of the gang, then I realised they just had got to know each other and they had yet to know me, which they now do, whoops, I'm part of a clique. Do you know what I'm saying?

moondog · 29/11/2005 16:59

Quite TC!

Maddison · 29/11/2005 17:06

Sorry, I can see why you don't see anything cliquey about this from my post, that was just one example, it just seems that she only wants me when there is no-one else available for her. If it were me that had the ticket first I would have told sil that I'd got the date wrong or whatever.

Maybe I should just chill out

md, I'm with you on the joy of not being hassled by other people

moondog · 29/11/2005 17:10

I read the Telegraph in mother&baby group today....was that very bad d'you think????

(It's also why I have the phone on ansafone mode permanently and don't have a mobile.)

hub2dee · 29/11/2005 17:14

I don't have a mobile either, moondog. But reading the Telegraph ? Shouldn't you call NHS direct or sommit ?

Hope you get your ticket(s) and enjoy the party, Maddison.

moondog · 29/11/2005 17:16

I did today hub2dee actually (on separate matter) and gave 'em a bollocking for not providing me with a Welsh speaker as they are obliged to do!!

Maddison · 29/11/2005 17:16

I already know some of these people and I do try to join in conversations, but they don't seem to want to listen to what I'm saying, if there is anything going on ie. an outing I don't get invited or they come and see me as a last option because x, y and z are all busy.

Thanks for the advice anyway I will go and take that chill pill now

Noswaith dda ! Shw mae, cariad ?

Dal ati! Daliwch ati!

hub2dee · 29/11/2005 17:26

I'd phone 'em back then, just to check this Telegraph thing is OK, cos sometimes it can just be a sign of something more serious. When you stand a wet glass on it, do the pages kind of go, you know, like a bit soggy and kind of get stuck together ? It might be nothing, but I'd get your Preferred Reading Matter checked out.

Hope it's nothing serious.

moondog · 29/11/2005 17:29

hub2dee....you're mad you!!

hub2dee · 29/11/2005 17:33

Yeah, but my Welsh is not bad eh !

Lio · 29/11/2005 17:34

This Telegraph/Welsh-ness think is blatantly cutting Maddison out, you Tory/Taffy clique

I tried the Telegraph recently and can't recommend it. FT is good at the Weekend though as a Grauniad alternative.

Sorry Maddison, what was it you wanted again...
