Would it be weird to bake for my married, male friend's birthday?

On the day, we're going to an event with both our DCs. It's something we often do as our OH aren't interested and glad that they don't have to go. His day will consist of leaving home at 7am for work, rushing home to collect Dc and straight out to meet me and my DC.

I always take snacks for the DC, usually something I've baked. This time I was thinking of making something birthday themed. Basically, I suppose my question is would his wife think that was weird? I'm really thinking of it for the benefit of the DC and maybe they will sing Happy Birthday, but is that my place/would it upset his wife?

IMO opinion he should be spending his birthday with his DW anyway, but she's apparently fine with it and he wants to go to the event.

I'm sorry OP, I really don't want to offend you but I do think that there is more to this than 'just a cake'.

My DH would be miffed if I baked a cake for another man as he never sees me in our kitchen Smile If his friend who bakes all the time baked him a cake I would think that was lovely of her, but she is a lovely person who does lovely things so totally normal in their friendship

Hmmm, I also have a male friend that I spend time with the kids with, and I WOULDN'T bake him a cake on his birthday, for this very reason. And I like baking. Don't do it OP, stick to the flapjacks!

if you're going to be having snacks, why not birthday themed snacks?

baking and full on icing a big old cake would be a bit much. a few buns - lovely

LadyLapsang · 16/07/2011 14:04

Just make sure you bake enough so that he goes home with a cake / slice of cake for his DW too.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 16/07/2011 14:16

oh slightly birthday-ish biscuits for everyone to share seems harmless enough to me.

Oh see, if I hadn't come back todayI'd have gone with the first few posters' vewis and got on withit, but as there's now some doubt, I won't do it. Shame though, because it should just have been a nice thing to do and the DCs would have loved it.

I think it could be ok as long as

a. You get the DC involved in the cake and introduce it as 'the kids wanted to help celebrate your birthday because they LOVE birthdays and of course that means cake!'

b. You don't use Love Hearts as any part of the decoration Grin

I know 2 neighbours who fell out over this!
Friend A baked a cake for the husband of friend B (as she was skint but wanted to thank him for some help he'd given her.) Friend B did NOT appreciate the gesture.
Cue 2 families living 5 doors apart with DCs attending the same school NOT TALKING.
awkward.

You've been warned! Grin

Come on, tell us, why do you need to analyse this so deeply?
He's your friend, it's his birthday, bring some buns, flapjacks, biscuits, whatever and enjoy your day out.
End of.

I thought I had Aislingorla, why do you need to keep pushing it? Wink

Oh well create, just think if I wanted to bake for a friend's birthday (male or female) I'd do it without starting a thread on MN about it, unless there is more to this than meets the eye!
Have fun!

I made my mate a cake for his birthday - no issue from his DP about it. It turned out like baked playdough though. We ended up chucking it in the bin but it was really heavy and didn't even break. And I'd coloured it pink just to be silly.

My tip would be get a good recipe Grin
