Dd is now 4 months and sex is still really painful even though i had a caesarean! Was also painful during last 4-5 months of pregnancy. really sore inside-cant handle deep penetration. feels like something is bruised and swollen up there!!! sorry to be so personal. is this normal? i went through a long labour but only dilated 4 cms before having an emergency c section. dont know if that makes a difference to answer. any help appreciated.

No its not normal, you should not have such pain.

Would strongly suggest you get this problem looked at properly by a gynaecologist (ask GP to refer you to one such person) especially as this is an ongoing problem.

Have you had any other symptoms - very painful periods now for instance or have a history of very painful periods prior to pregnancy?. If you do, mention this to the gynae as well.

I wish you well, don't be fobbed off and seek out the assistance of a gynae.

There are any number of reasons why you could have such pain. Go and see your GP and ask her/him. I dont agree that a gynaecological opinion is necessarily indicated - it could be something extremely simple such as thrush - but you do need to be examined by your doctor.

gOood luck

Your caesarean sounds similar to my first.

I couldn't physically manage to have sex for months after the birth. I went to the doctor, who examined me and said that my vagina had gone into spasm because of the trauma experienced during the attempt to give birth.

She didn't do anything, but it was reassuring - I'd go and see your doctor.

Having had 3 caesars now, I think lots of weird twinges (often sharp and painful) are pretty normal - it takes the body ages to fully recover from such major surgery.

But you should always check these pains with the doctor.
