How do you go from school gate friends to grown up friends

We moved to a new area last year. I have made lots of friends with school run mums but only really in a chatting in playground way.

DH has made no friends as he is working all the time. We spend weekends together as a family.

What's the best way to make 'couple friend's.

Party? Lunch in pub? Feels a bit intense to just invite them round to lunch!

I would invite a few good prospects for coffee after the school run to start with. Presumably you're inviting children to tea? Invite the parents in when they collect - make sure there's a half drunk bottle of wine that needs to be finished off!

Good plan, but I'm also keen to matchmake DH with some (male) friends too. He never gets to meet anyone and us quite shy/grumpy.

Once you've made friends with the mum, you can start arranging things with them and their partners if they have one?

Once you get to know the Mums, you'll find that their OHs share hobbies/interests with your OH. Golf? Rugby? Basket weaving? Whatever melts his iceberg.

Then arrange a good old boozy Sunday with them.
