Best bits of babyhood?

Hi all,

My relationship with DP is not going well and he keeps threatening to leave.

I am a first time mum due in April and apart from feeling stressed, knackered and achey, I'm terrified of the huge responsibility of taking care of my newborn baby with no experience or support. I feel like I've got to climb this mammoth mountain with no equipment or training!

I'm hoping that the huge love I already feel for DD will get me through life as a single mum if it comes to that but I just wanted to ask you all what the best bits of babyhood were for you?

Please just positive thoughts - I've had all the nightmare stories already!

Thanks in advance, S xx

best bits for me were:

the amazing rush I had when they were born. like "omg, i MADE that" and "it's a baby and it's mine" kind of feelings.

breastfeeding. looking at that tiny little bundle feeding contentedly

I had big babies, but i was amazed at how tiny they were. tiny little ears and toes

the smell! they smell wonderful

taking them out in the pram or the sling and people coo-ing over them and asking you all about them. There just is nothing like showing your new baby off

when they first smile at you

when they first laugh

when they are asleep in your arms and you can just look at them all calm and squishy and warm and lovely and yours!

lying in bed at night with a warm little bundle next to me and feeling so protective

seeing how happy they make other people- esp your parents

god... loads of it! i love babies!

The cuddles, his smiles and laugh, watching him develop and change
Its hard work but definitely worth it

Hi Salsa
May I fast forward a bit for you too :)

The company they offer, whether baby or older. My two are nearly early teens, I know it's some way off for you but I love going to the cinema with them, out for a pizza, or just watching a dvd at home all of us curled up on the sofa. They are little companions to me as my husband is away during the week.

I love hearing about their day, good or bad, when they come in from school.

You have years of wonderful things to look forward to!

Good luck!

Thanks girls, you're the best! I love my little bun in the oven sooo much but the thought of being a single mum if things don't work out with dp scares me almost just as much! As a first time mum I really feel terrified - like I haven't got a clue what I'm doing :(

salsa

I echo what the others have said

I'd also add;

When they start talking - it's amazing (and soo funny as well my advice is to write it all down, my DSs love reading the funny things they said when they were toddlers)

Oh Salsa what a lot you have to look forward to Smile

The first time ds said 'I love you' oh my god, i was a puddle of happiness. The sight of them snoozing on the sofa, or all clean and calm and happy, the sight of them covered in flour whilst 'helping' make cakes. Everything, you are going to love it.

On a less lovely note, why is your dp always threatening to leave?

perfumedlife · 11/01/2011 19:21

Yes JamieleeCurtis, the talking is brilliant. Ds' first words were Abhu Dhabi Confused

The first time we drove home from town in the dark he said 'oh look mum, the moon's put his lights on' as it was a full moon. So cute, write them all down.
