Just over 2 weeks time it's my son's first birthday Smile

However since his been born i've cut my nan and aunt out of my life (they are both toxic) and i've come to terms that my dad and sister are both toxic (my mum is on the scene but she is lead by my sister a dad).

I'm trying to get my head round how the are going to be on my son's birthday.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

i wouldn't waste any energy worrying about it to be honest, i would put all of your time making it the birthday party that you want it to be, otherwise they have you by the short and curlys, no one will ever find your children's birthday as fascinating as the parents, (and some grandparents if you are lucky) and having any expectations on relatives celebrating it with you, will only lead you to be in floods of tears by the bedtime,
i am not saying this to upset you, i am saying it because my kids are 12 and 9 and i have been there, if your relationship with them is strained now, they arent going to come round on the day all smiles with sacks of pressys, invite them if you feel you have to but dont wait for them to come to get on and enjoy your sons day, (ie dont wait for nanny b4 you cut the cake etc,,)

Thank you Susie, don't worry i'm past crying over my family. I'm just trying to work out what to expect, all I care about is my children's happiness

We cut DPs parents out about properly about 8 years ago,we never had alot to do with them but stuff got out of hand and it was DPs choice.
We have no contact....they are not welcome...we are in touch with DPs sisters but they are not hugely involved (FB only).
I'd make sure that your DS has a lovely birthday and that YOU enjoy it too.
Mine are all grown up now and have no interest in their Dad's family.
They are well adjusted children and HAPPY...some people are not worth the worry.

I was feeling worrried that my children would grow up 'lacking' something, my sensible head says they have 2 parents that have more than enough love for them and they don't need the negativity from 'family'. But you always worry, you've made me feel better moral thank you
