It hurts to make love after childbirth

Ever since ds was born 18mths ago it hurts to make love, like I'm being torn (TMI I know), for the first few minutes. Before everything was fine...now it feels totally different. I try relaxing, taking deep breaths, etc and it finally goes. Has something changed down there?? Anyone have the same experience??

It has never felt any different for me. I had a water birth and no stiches so maybe thats why. I also didn't have sex until 10 months after the birth.

Wow, 18 months? TBH it sounds like a check over would be a good thing.

Sorry if that's too blunt. It felt awful at first for me but after 3 months things were pretty much OK in most positions.

LouiseT, I would see a doctor about it to be honest. 18 months later is a long time to still be feeling pain in my opinion,

Lasvegas how did you survive 10 months?

lou33 · 14/09/2005 09:14

Did you have stitches? I had a similar problem after the birth of my oldest.

Norash I had little choice. Husband walked days after birth. I BF till 7 months then returned to full time work. During mat leave I had to sell and buy a house, deal with divorce matters. TBH no inclination to embark on a new relationship until 10 months after birth. Sex post child much better for me. We tried for 4 years to conceive so sex in past was a bit functional so to speak. Now pure passion as not having another child. The longest I go now if 4 days (when having period) so making up for lost time!

I had a similar experience, my dd is now 10 months and we'v only just really started having sex again. basically it just takes time, it has taken almost a month of almost every night (TMI i know i know) for me to feel it didnt hurt anymore. i think it was mostly to do with the stitches. but 18mo is a long time, a docs check is prob best, but if you have only recently started trying i would say just persevere for a little while first, it can take time!
