I'm worried about the weekend

I love my DH with all my heart and I'm sure he loves me. He always tells me and he's a good dad to our DC. He has been unemployed for a long time and I have to provide for the family. Sometimes I think he doesn't even want a job.

Anyway everything is good apart from football. There is a big game this weekendand he takes it seriously. He comes from a huge Irish family and they all come round to watch the game on the telly. I have to supply food and cook it for them. They eat so much its unbelievable. You'd think they were starved at home. I also have to make sure there is enough Guinnes for them. To top it off they are always criticising my home and saying how much better things are at their own house. I mean if its so much better why don't they just go home?

The other problem is if they win then they have a huge party and usually something gets damaged. If they lose its even worse though because my DH goes into a foul mood and sometimes he gets violent.

I really don't know what to do because apart from that life is good

I would assume that the Irish thing has been mentioned because the OP things it is a valid point? Maybe She has been to other family gatherings where there have been issues?

These travelling families can get quite a reputation I assume they start trouble at one family household and then just move onto the next....

Monty100 · 20/10/2010 19:56

'travelling families'??

Did I miss something??

Bucketcrutch · 20/10/2010 20:09

Didnt she say they were 'Pikeys?' I always understood that to be travelling families, sorry if Im wrong.

Monty100 · 20/10/2010 20:17

Bucket - no, I don't think she did.

I just read your previous post as well.

How odd.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 20/10/2010 20:47

I took the Irish reference in OP's post to just give an idea of what game she was talking about. (Old firm game this weekend)

glastocat · 20/10/2010 21:02

Its nothing to do with being Irish FGS. I'm Irish and know no-one who would behave like this. Send them to the pub, and if he's violent, chuck him out.

Yes, the last 2 days it has been weird around here. But as you have seen, they have their fans amongst regular posters, so a response is not wasted. Have you reported them Eleanor?

SallyMc54 · 21/10/2010 00:48

I also hate the derby game build up , i think i'll go home, to mums for the weekend with my DS.

the day will be wasted anyways coz of the drinking.

Mostinette · 21/10/2010 01:05

sometimes derby days can be good for 'quality time' with the family, dreaming of far away mythical lands where everybody thinks like you. delusion can be a comfort and in self pity its easy to blame others for your faults, a way to deal with jealousy. my uncle Jock knew that but he kept it to himself.

thebogtrotter · 21/10/2010 01:45

What the hell is wrong with you all? Please stop trolling and sod off.

Right, I give you this advice as a Man who hates football with a passion and would rather read with his partner than ever induldge with watching it or partaking in it.

This is a trick I have used successfully on Parents/ex-partners when "Football sunday" came around grumble

Most likely you have Sky right?..On which this horde shall watch the foot of ball? Well this is what you do, look for the lead which connects the Sky to the TV it is called the "SCART" lead and has a connector which looks something like this

www.yourdictionary.com/images/computer/SCART.GIF

There should be some little exposed pins on the end of it that plugs into your TV, discreetly snap off or bend these pins to they come off completely or bend and warp to the point they will not connect with the TV.

Now test the Sky/Freeview and if a picture is coming through, you need to destroy a few more.

When the Horde arrives and finds the Sky not working they will more than likely "Feck Off"

I give you this advice and ask you proceed with care, because "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility"......Godspeed
