My sister was born when I was 25. 9 years on she is now an aunt to my 2 children aged 5 and 4 months. She was also born an aunt to my step-brother's daughter who wil be 12 this year. Anyone have similar family set up?

My mum was pregnant with me at the same time as my sister was pregnant with her first daughter, so now I have a niece who is 6 months older than me :) she used to shout "Aunty SWBL!" down the corridors in school to me to embarrass me Grin bitch. Not quite the same, but people often find it odd all the same Grin

nameymcnamechange · 12/10/2010 20:00

My dh is older than his uncle.

His Mum had him when she was 18.

Her Mum (dh's Grandma) had her brother (dh's uncle) when she was 39. They were pregnant at the same time.

Boysboysboys · 12/10/2010 20:06

DS1 has a niece 2 weeks younger than him (DS2 is younger than her) from his half sister. I have a step mother 2 years older than my sister, my half sister is 22 years younger than me and my BIL is older than my mum

happiestblonde · 12/10/2010 20:55

I'm younger than my DP's youngest (there are 4 of them) brother, and younger than his girlfriend.

That's all I have.

Age gaps can make a relationship :)

asbolutelyfabulous · 13/10/2010 10:47

My father is older than my grandfather - my mother married a man older than her own father.

EccentricaGallumBATS · 13/10/2010 10:49

i have a half brother and sister who are younger than my own children. it is very weird.

msboogie · 13/10/2010 10:52

My older son is over 20 years older than his younger brother and I am 17 years older than my younger brother

MrsRhettKilledTheButler · 13/10/2010 10:52

there is not enough space on mumsnet to explain my family Blush Grin

but we do have a 33 yr old granny, and lots of uncles/aunties younger than the nephews/nieces

ghosteditor · 13/10/2010 11:04

My mum is 6 months older than her half-aunt - and they were best friends when they were little.

My great-gran was widowed at a young age and remarried. She had two more children and was pregnant at the same time as her 19 year old daughter (my gran).

As it happens my gran was a twin, but her twin died at birth so my great-gran adopted a baby boy whose mother died in hospital. So, my gran also has an adoptive brother who is a day or two younger than her.

On the other side of the family, my grandad was born conjoined and he and his brother were separated by the village GP. The twin didn't survive and my grandad wasn't told about him until he was in his 20s. Funny things happened during the war Shock.

So yes, there are identical twins on both sides of the family Confused

18-21 year gaps from oldest to youngest in my parents' families.

My dad is eldest and my mom is youngest...

My eldest aunt is 88 and my youngest uncle is 46 (less than 4 years older than me).

My mother's eldest sister is older than both my dad's parents.

So I never had doting grandparents: my dad's parents were too young and my mother's were too elderly.

I have first cousins born as early as 1949 and as late as 2000.

Identical twins run in my family, too, usually born to teenage moms.

msboogie · 13/10/2010 12:34

what funny things happened during the war ghosteditor?

snaped · 13/10/2010 12:40

my dad aged 60, has a wife aged 32

they have 2 boys aged 5 & nearly 2.

I am 40 and have 3 siblings all over 30 years old.

my son is 7, my siblings have a child each, aged 7 &8.

My dads 2nd family boys are my sons uncles.

expain that to ds?????

I dont consider it rediculous though as we are all very very happy and get on wonderfully well, all the kids love each other like brothers Grin

Hulababy · 13/10/2010 12:44

My uncle is only 4 years older than me. My nana has six children and my mum was the second eldest.

Not an age gap - but wierd family scenario:

My mum's elder brother was married to my dad's little sister (after my parents were married). They are now divorced, but it means my two cousins are cousins on both sids - very diffiuclt to draw on a family tree!

HMTheQueen · 13/10/2010 13:18

My mum is a twin, but there are 3 1/2 days between her and her sister. Apparently the Drs didn't know my Grandma was having twins, and only realised once Aunty came out that there was still some-one in there! Grin

Three days later, Grandma went back into labour and had my mum.

Imagine doing labour twice in three days!!! Shock

ghosteditor · 13/10/2010 14:06

HMTheQueen that's awful!!

Have you seen the Guardian article here - they seem like a lovely family but I find it hard to get my head around the idea of identical twin boys who are four years different in age!

msboogie, sorry, I didn't punctuate that very well. I meant that my grandparents were all born during the war and that the idea of conjoined twins being separated at home by the GP was a bit frightening (especially since one of them didn't make it)! Also the random adoption of my great-uncle because my gran's twin didn't survive.

To top off the siamese twin thing, my grandad had four older siblings, none of whom knew that their little brother's twin existed until they were all adults. It was a mining family and they didn't talk about stuff like that.

HMTheQueen · 13/10/2010 15:36

To be fair - my grandparents lived in deepest darkest Australian bush and didn't see doctors very often! And it was my Grandma's first pregnancy so didn't realise that she was bigger than she should have been! Grin

Lynli · 13/10/2010 15:40

My DS is an uncle twice he is 9 and his nieces are 8 and 2.

JiggeryPopery · 13/10/2010 15:42

I'm me own grandpa.

Grin

This thread has short-circuited my brain

amatuermummy · 13/10/2010 21:59

My DP's Grandad re-married a younger woman and had two DC's now aged 8 and 10 - so my DP is 25 and they are his aunt and uncle, making them great-aunt and great-uncle to my DD aged 4 months and DP's two nephews aged 5 and 2 years.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/10/2010 22:30

Another complex family here. I am already a great aunt and I have great nephews and nieces who are older than my own two children.

gingercurl · 13/10/2010 22:44

My 3yo DS has three half-siblings: 35, 30 and 19. His nephews are 12 and 6 years old.
