my ds has a friend at school but the mum is obsessed! She occasionally invites my ds for play dates but it is always last minute and she always assesses his academic progress and grills him about his home life. She is crazed and constantly comparing her son to other kids in the class.
My husband says don't do the dates any more and i mostly avoid them but occasionally she catches me off guard and i relent. The last date was a good example where my son was asked if i was pregnant, if we were moving and how everything was going at school (in great detail). I take exception to this because these questions are things she wouldn't ask me because they are clearly inappropriate and the word manipulation/alarm bells come to mind. Btw this woman is a primary school teacher! Anyway can anyone offer advice on how to deal with this tricky customer?

Tell her you have an embarassing problem, genital warts or something.

If ds wishes to keep his friend then arrange play dates somewhere that isn't her home, a soft play for example. You can also be busy, especially if it's at the last notice. Shocking behaviour for a teacher though.

Sounds like a crank who could end up screwing your kid up!! Avoid, avoid, avoid!

I would bluntly tell her that you don't want her son going on play dates to her house as she seems to use them to pry into your private life.

I am sure other people will also be avoiding her.

Thanks guys. It just seems a shame that i have to brace myself when my natural state of being is open and honest, giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. she also seems to like to keep the mums seperated while she has her private coffees to gleen information. Whenever i get stuck in a corner with her she always seems to say something which is either bitchy or hurtful and is always fishing for gossip which i suspect she uses to her own advantage (eeeek). The upshot is my interactions with her invariably leave me feeling shite despondant. so hey yes - avoid avoid avoid.
