He is better than I ever expected, I always knew he would be good, but never really saw him with young children much to know for sure...
All of his "home time" is family time and he puts our son and me first in everything....he really is fab, very hands on and loving...

He amazes me constantly, he is step dad to my three and so many people comment on the fantastic relationship they have. They were quite old really when he came into their lives (13, 9 and 5) and there could have been resentment and bad feeling as I had only just split up with their dad, but he has just been so wonderful it has been really easy and natural.

I have so many lump in the throat moments when I watch him with them, all four of us are really lucky to have him.

Dh is a great dad, beter than i thought he would be, he know stays home and looks after dd when i go to work, he sings to her, plays with her and gets up in the night with her, he's the best dad ever! DD is daddys little girl, im sure she loves him more than me!

Surfermum · 25/08/2005 16:15

I knew that dh would be a great dad as he already had dsd. I wondered if I'd be jealous that he'd been through all the having a baby thing with someone else, but when dd was born I was just SO relieved that he knew what to do, and he handled dd and dressed and changed her so confidently, so instead of being jealous I was really pleased!

my dp is the best dad in the whole world, when we met i was in a bit of a state to say the least i had a 2yr old dd and we were both 19/20 (so quite young) and people told me that it wouldnt last as he would get fed up of never having any money and lack of freedom so tbh i didnt expect much from him, although i could see he loved my dd (even though he wouldnt admit it to start with) he told me he couldnt be with me because i had a dd and he was too young so i didnt pressure him but we enjoyed spending time with each other a few months later when i had to move house i asked him to come with me and he said yes so ever since then we have been together and he has turned out to be so generous and caring, he would do anything for me and "our" dd, we are due to have our 2nd dd in a couple of wks time and i couldnt wish for a better dad for my children my dd is now 6 btw and she absolutly adores him

dh is really good on the bath time routine and putting the little ones to bed. I sometimes wish he was more proactive ie taking them to the park or just doing something with th little ones without waiting for my say so. I seem to have to suggest ideas to him and then motivate him to actually do it iyswim.

I feel a little disappointed if i am honest as I thought he was a much more get up and go kind of guy. He is actually a lazy sod.

Dissapointed made out he would be in there helping and now two kids later it's all down to me, he constantely gets irritable with them for no reason, shouting and telling them to be quiet. Never goes out with us, but if he's around other people he's fine. Sits all day on the computer if it's his day off doesn't help much around the house, and moans that i haven't got a better paid job than what i am doing. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Slink · 06/09/2005 19:36

Oh yes oh yes and then some he is fab. 5pm completely takes over while i study, does bath, bedtime. In the morning does her breakfast (while i get ready ) On days off i have me time and he has dd time.

your so lucky.

crazydazy · 06/09/2005 19:40

Mine is very good, but I knew he would be...when he first held DD in his arms I just knew what a great Dad he would make.

He is fiercely protective of them and has much more patience than I have with them. I just watch him sometimes reading to DS and think "awwwwww" it makes me realise why I do love him and why we need to work through the problems we have.

My Dad was totally useless and was so afraid I would make the same mistake as my Mum but I know for a fact even if we split up he would never let them down!!!!!

saadia · 06/09/2005 20:46

He is better than I thought he would be and I expected he would be very good. He's OK but not great with the practical stuff (feeding and changing) but he has a lot of patience when they're crying in the middle of the night and you can see that he makes them feel good about themselves and happy.

Also puts in a lot of time after work with ds1 (aged 3.5) - teaching him letters/numbers, exploring things on the Internet that ds is interested in (space shuttle, volcanoes etc) and makes up bedtime stories which ds really enjoys. Also encourages ds to play and enjoy footie and has started showing him how to play tennis - all of which ds loves.
