It was about Dunblane. So moving.

Yes, I listened to it. Heartbreaking. R4 are so good at making programmes like this.

squeaver · 30/04/2010 13:19

I actually sent a comment to Feedback, for the first time ever.

To my shame I had to turn it off. I had just dropped DD2 (Yr1) at school and the description of events by the teacher who had survived being shot were just too much for me to listen to. As for the father who was bringing up his DD alone following his wife's death from cancer, only to lose his precious DD in the shooting. My heart was breaking.

I was weeping in the car. Sat there for 45 mins, even though I was parked outside the house.

They were all so dignified.

That was why I felt so unbelievably sad. They were very dignified. I think we all need reminding of these things sometimes, if only to make us realise how lucky we really are. It has certainly stopped me whining about cashflows and tax returns.

I didn't quite catch which of the participants said that going through that experience meant that she knew now that she could cope with anything that life had to throw at her. Was it the injured teacher?

edam · 30/04/2010 20:44

It was an extraordinary programme. Compelling. The parents and teacher were so incredibly dignified.

squeaver · 30/04/2010 21:29

I think it was the teacher, Isaid

Thanks, Squeaver. It was hugely moving. I hope R4 does more of this ilk.

edam · 30/04/2010 23:18

isaidhey, they've done a few series of The Reunion. The episode on Hillsborough was particularly striking.

Isaidheyhoney · 01/05/2010 00:16

Thanks, edam, I didn't catch that. Some are more moving than others - will go on iPlayer for it.

This fantastic programme felt like it was hitting me in the stomach and also made me cry (I have an 11 month old DS).

I remember when Dunblane happened, it was sad of course but in the end just another tragic news item. I had no children then. Now, listening to this programme I had a totally different reaction, visceral, terrifying. It brought home to me graphically how having a child has changed my outlook on the world, and how everything is is now seen through the lens of concern for your baby, I presume this never abates, no matter how old they are.

Northernlurker · 01/05/2010 15:51

Dh listened to this. I just can't. I think having your own children makes a huge difference to how you react to this sort of thing.

HumphreyCobbler · 01/05/2010 15:51

yes, I wept too

traceybath · 01/05/2010 15:53

I listened to it last sunday and cried.

Species8472 · 04/05/2010 11:38

thedudesmummy - that's exactly how I felt (DD is 10m).
