Radio 4 - www 'stroke' rather than 'slash'?

I've noticed over the last few weeks that Radio 4 presenters are directing listeners to (for example) www.bbc.co.uk'stroke'The Archers.

Is this an experiment by Radio 4 to see if they can influence a change away from the commonly used 'slash'? Or could it be that 'slash' is perceived as being common?

TBH, I find some of the presenters saying 'stroke' a bit off-putting. A little bit dirty old man IYKWIM, especially as the word tends to be emphasised

Obviously if it's a female presenter, it's not as dirty old man (sorry Jenni et al , but I still find it jars.

It'll be interesting to see if any of the other BBC stations or channels starts to do the same - CBeebies are still 'slash'ing AFAIK

Sometimes they go further and say "forward slash" where I've always "known" them as "slash" and "backslash"

I had noticed they lost the "www." in recent months on R4 but they still have the very annoying "log on to " (only time you need to "log on" or "login" is if you want to comment on their blogs area, or try the clunky MessageBoards)... the rest of the time you just view the darn pages don't you !?!

... and don't get me started on "the BBC and" ... iPods or Googling or Twitter or FaceBook as my head would explode with a fraction of the rage they cause me!

I remember John Peel's Home Truths discussed this for weeks. He said stroke too.

I hate 'slash'. My dad says 'he's going for a slash' when he's off to the toilet. Urgh.

The BBC always seem to say "Forwards Slash" which annoys me slightly, surely most people know which direction of slash is used on the web by now?

They should say 'forward slash'. If they say 'stroke' I feel slightly grubby and if they say 'slash' it just makes me think of gay fanfiction!
