Oh just yawn, she's such a drip, she doesn't deserve a non-sociopathic bloke. She needs to be sent to the Outer Hebrides and never called back.

OMG, just listening to yesterday evening's episode. Helen, you are an ARSE. "I'm not trying to decide for her ... she wouldn't be alone, she's got me ... it could be worst mistake of her life ... I've got to make her see it before it's too late"

Poor bloody Annette.

And what's her face putting the case for her having an abortion annoyed me too - dirty nappies and sleepless nights yuck! and she should be out having fun! Yeah, right, a really well reasoned argument in favour of a woman's right to choose1

DorotheaPlenticlew · 14/01/2010 17:06

That is true Brenda is hardly the most insightful person around at the best of times but at least she was basically (lamely) trying to indicate that the decision is actually Annette's regardless of her reasons.

Whereas Helen was talking along the lines of making her see sense etc, as though Annette couldn't be trusted to know what was best for her. Which is the thing that makes me so as it's well on the road to classic "you don't know what a terrible thing you're about to do" moralising.

Dorothea - which night ( or lunchtime repeat) was it that Elizabeth suffered guilt?

Damn, I missed it!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 14/01/2010 20:53

Actually I think it was lots of years ago -- sorry if unclear, didn't mean to get your hopes up! It all happened kind of just as I was starting to become a regular-ish listener ... but I don't remember the details. Maybe someone else will!

LadyBiscuit · 14/01/2010 21:49

Lizzie's abortion was years ago - she had a deeply unsuitable bounder of a boyfriend before she started seeing Nigel and said boyfriend did a runner when she announced she was pregnant as far as I remember

PrincessFiorimonde · 14/01/2010 22:53

Lizzie's boyfriend was called Cameron, I think. Maybe 12 years ago?

squeaver · 14/01/2010 22:57

Oh I remember that Lizzie story so clearly.

Then Nigel came along and saved her from herself.

PrincessFiorimonde · 14/01/2010 22:58

Oh my God! It was 1992. Have I really been listening for so many years??

campion · 15/01/2010 19:39

I remember the abortion very well, Dorothea, and Cameron Fraser dumping her at the motorway service station ( the cad).

My ( tongue in cheek) point was that I've never known the insufferable Elizabeth do guilt. She always sounds so insincere and patronising and I don't buy her Lady of the Manor act, either.

Come to think of it, I did once have dealings with a Lady of the Manor and she was not unlike Elizabeth.

OK, I do buy it

tvaerialmagpiebin · 15/01/2010 19:49

Ooh Cameron Fraser, I remember that immortal line "Shall we put another log on the fire or shall we find another way of keeping warm" before he seduced Lizzie. He was a nasty 'un but the actor had a fabbo accent.

onlyjoinedforoffers · 15/01/2010 20:23

i didnt know you took tablets for an early abortion you live and learn

nicefleece · 15/01/2010 20:29

can't get over Helen and her irritating and patronising advice to Annette tonight - "you'll never be alone again / it's not all one way / you'll be in a relationship [if you keep the baby]" yes ... because a baby / toddler / small child is such amazing company and a real giver in terms of practical support isn't it! Mind you if Annette has a stubbornly early-rising child then she can alwayss send him / her down to do the papers every morning in the shop I suppose!

oh and yes Helen, you and your tiny flat above the shop with the boxroom for Annette will be the most brilliant place to bring up a child... even Helen isn't this naive surely? think the script writers are taking this a bit too far. she could be making better arguments for keeping the baby (agree Brenda could have made better arguments against too).
