Because I love him. A lot. And read an article which said that most people would never have heard of him, to which I though "what utter rot", and composed a witty riposte. In my head.

So, anyone else a fan of the Big-nosed Jock Wop?

is it a fake? oh good.

i emailed a pretty famous old uni pal on fb the other day with various questions to establish authenticity. he accepted me as a friend without responding so he's either become a great big nob or it was a fake.

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 22:38

"pretty famous old uni pal" Who? Who? If it's Fraser Nelson then it doesn't count.

I hate Facebook too - self-indulgent tedium.

lol at fraser nelson. he's nice. don't slag him off. pretty famous is hollywood, is that good enough for ya?

NigellaTufnel · 15/04/2009 22:41

I have absolutely no connection with him, but I did spend a lot of time as a student lusting over smart Scottish debaters. The ones from Glasgow being particularly attractive with their quick wit, and capacity for drink.

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 22:42

Ooh - that is famous. Tell me!! Email if nec.

FN is a ponce, imo. DH knew him at uni too. Maybe he's your shared link.

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 22:43

Be quite funny if Nigella had lusted after you all these years, Aitch...

glug glug glug

NigellaTufnel · 15/04/2009 22:50

Ahhh the Hibernian Challenge...

Anyone kicking about Edinburgh, GUU, TCD, etc etc debating scene early to mid nineties.

AitchTwoOh · 15/04/2009 22:52

gah. you are just slightly too young i think. didn't neil win worlds in the early nineties?
or was that robin and gordon? actually were you at glasgow worlds? or dublin?

it's a debate geek-off!

NigellaTufnel · 15/04/2009 22:57

I was at Melbourne. Which may have been won by Manus and Duncan.
I think. I was quite drunk for most of the time.

I was a real debates geek

AitchTwoOh · 15/04/2009 23:02

lol, manus and duncan. they were wee kiddies when i was around. i was on the board with duncan's big brother. i liked them both, they were good guys. manus is a big fuck off lawyer now and duncan's a politician. or was, actually. he jacked it in very publicly a couple of years back. i wonder what he's up to now? glasgow just won everything for a while there, didn't it? what uni were you at?

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 23:02

You've hijacked my shrine, you debate-geek bastards.

OP posts:
blinks · 15/04/2009 23:03

the thought of being part of a debating scene makes my soul grimace.

i prefer a good honest scrappy argument.

AitchTwoOh · 15/04/2009 23:05

hah, if you say that you wur'n'y there. {grin]

pointydog · 15/04/2009 23:15

I like him. Did you see when he got really pissed off with those young C4 music presenters?

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 23:15

No - was that recently?

OP posts:
pointydog · 15/04/2009 23:19

Just the other morning. dh saw it (before going to work, I'm on hol so am var lazy). I was sorry I'd missed it. Apparently he told the sarky young buck that he wished he had a cotton wool ball because he would ram it down his throat and shove it out his arse till he looked like a playboy bunny.

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 23:20

Oh, excellent!

OP posts:
pointydog · 15/04/2009 23:23

yes!

ONly thing was, the sarky young buck must have found it all rather funny because they broadcast it again after the event to make a jpke of it. Accoding to dh.

I can't even picture these new music oresenters. Took over from Amstell a while ago now I think

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 23:24

Alexa PITA Chung was one for a while. God she was annoying. Amstell was very very funny.

OP posts:
pointydog · 15/04/2009 23:25

yes I like Amstell. I can see how annoying he is but I do like him

Chung should stick to fashion

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 23:26

Bah even to that. Big cardis and opaque tights do not a style icon make.

OP posts:
Firepile · 15/04/2009 23:27

Nigella and Aitch,

I too was a debatey geek (but more Nigella's generation than Aitch's). And embarrassingly enough, I was still unable to pull for much of it.

Duncan Hamilton is now an advocate. I will admit to having been a bit swoony over him in the past...
