Oh a thread about comedians, one of my favorite passions!

For the record thought ladies and gents, i have met and hung out with Jimmy Carr, he is nowt like his t.v persona, he is really nice and seem to genuinly be greatfull for his fans and fame.

I love Lee Evans, that man can make me pee my pants with just a flailing of him limbs!

I am also in love with Russel Howard, his stand up DVD is so funny i couldn't breath at one pint watching that.
I also like Peter Kay, Lee Hurst, Dara O'Briean (sp?) and Hugh Deniss.

Frankie Boyle is fab i am going to see him live next time he tours, tommorrow i am going to see Andy Parsons live in the Dorking Halls, he is DP's favorite comedian.

People i don't rate are, Billy Connely, Michael Macintyre (sp?)

I really, really heart Noel Fielding and the Buzzcocks and Mock the Week Crew.

I too miss Linda Smith, she was wonderful. I like Josie Long.

I saw Jo Brand years ago, she was great live, and Caroline Ahern dressed as a nun for some reason.

Really Funny Women

I used to go to loads of comedy gigs when I lived in the North West, I must start again.

In the last few years seen Robin Ince, Jeremy Hardy, Marcus Brigstoke and recently, don't-shout-at-me-cos-I-like-him, Count Arthur Strong!!

Any recommedations?

Interesting that Libby Purves came nowhere in that stars Doing Standup thing for Comic Relief and she was at least as funny as the other two.

I'm wrong about women stand-ups -- ypu are right that the small numbers of women just don't generate the process where the very best are filtered through to the top.

Yes, Hugh's back!
On women comedians - I did an MA dissertation on women stand-ups about twelve years ago. There are quite a few.

Female stand up comedians and nobody has mentioned Victoria Wood, saw her live and every women in the audience was in stictches and most of the blokes just looking very comfortable.

Personal favourite stand up is Adam Hills (Aussie) has done Radio 4 stands up, has come over very badly on the few odd bits I have seen him do on TV but brilliant live and so nice to have a stand up that has a positive up beat take on the world and just wants to make it better.

Lucy Porter live was just, well, boring.
