caroline duffy just read a somewhat moving poem on radio four, but my god what a dull, cliched reading voice.
surely rada et all have enough voice coaches to have got rid of that moaning monotone way of reading aloud as i am sure no one eeperiences the words when reading(in your head)in such a dreary way.
i certainly read all your threads with a light witty voice.

I knew you'd be talking about her

It was terrible wasn't it? She ruined her own poem

Carol Ann Duffy

I didn't hear it. I agree it's often read in a dull way, but not always.

MadameOvary · 01/01/2009 11:42

You should hear old recordings of Dylan Thomas. He redefines serious!

Guadalupe · 01/01/2009 11:47

That's what I was thinking, madame ovary, when you think of a dead pan poetry reading on the radio he's the first that springs to mind.

Ooops guadalupe shouldn't really say anything if i can't get her name right

I've heard a recording of Auden making an awful hash of one of his own poems...I think there was a special dull poetry reading voice in those days...

Of course you can say something. I had to correct you though.

Saw Stephen Spender reading one of his poems on the TV once. One of the best things I have ever watched. He was incredibly charismatic.

This is a good reading.
