I am just getting into podcasts. I enjoy true crime, the supernatural and slightly "quirky" ones like Uncanny. I think I'd enjoy ones about the origins of everyday sayings, the origins of words etc with a bit of lighthearted history thrown in. That sort of thing if that makes sense! However, I'm open to any suggestions.
Tia.

Something rhymes with purple - Susie Dent/Giles Brandreth is good for origins of words and sayings.

For true crime I like The Prosecuters, they’re American, but they present a fairly balanced view of timelines and evidence and then go through theories of a case and I like the way they present them. They have some one off episodes and some series. I quite like the Night Owl Podcast for supernatural, a bit more serious than uncanny but definitley spooky! Another recommendation from me would be the observer podcasts which have some investigative series, I have just listened to the Foundling which I really enjoyed

I am currently listening to The Profiler presented by Kerry Daynes. It’s a brilliant true crime podcast.
Also listening to The Darkling which is true supernatural stories

I've searched a few suggestions on BBC sounds but nothing is coming up. Where can I find them all please?

The best true crime podcast ever was the first series of Serial, it’s quite old now but so gripping I still think about it today

LORE is a good supernatural podcast. Been going for years so there’s plenty of episodes.

I don't know if you can listen to non bbc podcasts on their app? You might need to use another app. I use podcast addict. Or if you Google your way to them online sometimes you can choose to open with another app.

Lovecraft investigates on iPlayer - genuinely frightening in places, but very good. Start with 1st series - Charles Dexter Ward. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002xnkw/episodes/downloads?page=2

BBC Radio 4 - The Lovecraft Investigations - Downloads

I enjoy RedHanded and I Could Murder A Podacst for true crime. Hunting Warhead is phenomenal but deals with peadophiles/CSA so you might want to give it a miss if too sensitive of a topic. Normally I’m pretty hard to shock but that one got to me quite a lot.

I found The Apology Line fascinating, well worth a listen.

After Dark: Myths, Misdeeds and the Paranomal is great for history and a bit of spookiness. I also recommend Lore as per PPs, the music is gorgeous and really adds to the atmosphere of the episodes.

If you’re interested in medical history, Beyond The Knife is great, they only release one episode a month but it’s so worth the wait.

And if you want a break from spookiness and true crime, then you can’t beat My Dad Wrote A Porno! Just don’t listen to it with kids around 😂

Thanks, all. Lots to explore!
