Are the taking the piss? This must be the worst piece of writing and storytelling I have ever heard!! Is it a social experiment?

No - but it was a handy way to ‘read’ some of the popular books that I knew I wouldn’t get round to reading myself. Like Yellow Face

I'd not even heard of Yellow Face.

My uncle emigrated to Botswana in the 70s, met his wife and had a family. I visited in the late 80s and the first few AMS books did remind me of that trip. The slowness and gentleness of the books started to feel a bit patronising as things went on.

My Dad visited regularly until about 10 years ago and I'm in touch with my family over there. Apparently (unsurprisingly) it has changed a lot in almost 40 years! Fascinating place.
