Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to have Kate present as you give birth, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I'm more excited about the arrival of the beavers than anything else going on in Ambridge at the moment. I hope there will be a webcam.

Bets on how much of next week is set in the castle or on the way there/back? I'm bracing myself for at least 50%.

And straight away George’s instinct was to lie … a repeat of what happened after the crash … but this was a violent attack.

Yup. It is chilling.

Thankfully I hadn’t realised they were standing at the top of a flight of stairs, so only heard Ed being shoved and knocked over. Don’t think my heart could have stood thinking he’d been … Heavens, can’t even write it.

Abra1t · 28/11/2025 07:57

Thank god it wasn’t Poppy or Keira who ‘got on his nerves’.

JoelenesParrot · 28/11/2025 08:54

Would Ed really want to cover things up for George? Or was he just in shock? I think he must have been left pretty horrified by what had just happened- presumably he will eventually confide in Emma who will probably just dismiss his version of the story because she is an ostrich.

TottersBlankly · 28/11/2025 09:24

I imagine Ed himself, considerably more than Amber, is terrified that George might put himself back in prison. So he’s highly unlikely to do or say anything that might precipitate that.

LillianGish · 28/11/2025 10:11

Exactly this - which is why it is so sad that George turned on him, but is also the reason why he can now feel confident Ed will cover for him. This won’t end well. Brad suspects - might he warn Amber, but Amber won’t dare think ill of George again. Ed might tell Emma, but possibly not until it’s too late and George has gone something even worse.

MorningCoffeePlease · 28/11/2025 10:18

Amber NEEDS to know before she gets hitched to someone who is capable of domestic violence.

RegimentalSturgeon · 28/11/2025 10:54

She’s got a kink for cons, so it’s a risk she’s inviting. She might not find the reality such a turn-on. Shrug.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 28/11/2025 12:00

Amber has painted herself into a corner with the whole ‘how can I really annoy my mum and dad’ thing.

I have teens (is Amber still a teen?? Think so, George is 19) and sometimes you have to find a way to let them back down without losing face. I feel like Amber’s Dad might have made a bit of an attempt at this but really she just needs to come to her senses now and go home!

I think the scriptwriters are doing a good job of writing in someone ‘getting the ick’

TBF this whole George storyline has been years in the making. Remember him taking the wheels off Jake and Poppy’s bikes just after Nic died? Even as a silent character there was something a bit menacing about him at times.

I think he does have capacity for kindness but he can also be cruel and now, as we’ve seen, violent. I do see why Amber suspected he’d stolen the money and I agree there will be a domestic violence storyline even if it isn’t right now. It would be more sensible to let that continue to build over time.

I think it could be heading this way. He will lose his temper with Amber and she won't put up with it.

We had that with Tunagate.

I think that Amber will not be around much longer, or she'll end up with Brad.
I wonder why the actor and character change.

George being a wrong 'un has built up from when he was a little boy. He's been pandered to by everyone, apart from Neil, who is firm but fair.

Has the excellent George actor been lured to pastures greener, and they need to write him out? I do hope not.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 28/11/2025 16:51

I think you’re right @ThreshAcrebut I meant build it up so it manifests with another partner for George in the future… I agree Amber is going to finish with him and I think we may only get a hint of how nasty he can turn with the women in his life.

You’re right that Amber won’t put up with it.

ThreshAcre · 28/11/2025 17:10

I wonder why the actor and character change. I have a feeling that Squealy Amber has gone either to come back as a bigger character or left for a better offer. (Lily was the strange Ellie midwife or something who was charmed by Rob, Brian had a minor part pre Brian, Tracey used to be the young Kate ...)
New Amber might be a young talented actor earmarked and given a break.

There is mileage in George as a character and, I hope, in Brad. I don't want either of them to vanish.

Talk about vanishing, where are Johnny and Fat Dan? Both Archers and both MIA.

James Cartwright = Harrison Burns. So that's the 'undercover work'!

Nerve-wracking …

Why on earth haven’t Ed n Emma locked him in a room and screamed at him for two solid hours?

This is not good.

muddyford · 28/11/2025 19:19

Brad won't be able to keep it from Tracy or perhaps Chelsea. Or even Amber. George will go back in clink, Amber sees the light and bogs off back to Borchester.

Lalgarh · 28/11/2025 19:25

Brad realises dating apps aren't for him, that he has to meet someone IRL, (and apparently stands up whoever was at the escape room) and BINGO just happened to spot Amber.

"Meet cute"

ThreshAcre · 28/11/2025 19:27

Rex and Alice/Kirsty?

TottersBlankly · 28/11/2025 19:29

Why is the New Amber actress adopting Alice’s ‘over emphatic, carefully reading an unfamiliar script’ intonation? One person doing that is enough. (It was so bad I’m amazed she wasn’t given a note and asked to re-do it.)

ThreshAcre · 28/11/2025 19:32

Enjoyed tonight's episode. I ❤Brad.

Lalgarh · 28/11/2025 19:35

He's got promise and a chance of leaving Borchester/ Ambridge.

You have to know it will end in tears

TottersBlankly · 28/11/2025 20:24

Thinking about it, George was probably in a worse mood yesterday after Brad popped in ‘on his way to uni’. We’ve already heard him reflecting on how their lives and life chances have diverged. Brad having something meaningful and future-oriented to do with his day must have been another brick in the wall of George’s dead end isolation.

And now Brad knows who George really is, he’ll never truly be able to be his friend again …
