Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd be delighted to oblige your employer by cleaning up sewage spills without proper training or equipment in place of your normal duties, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Credit for the title goes to @echt. Can't think of anything much to say about current storylines. Credulity is strained to its limit on many fronts, unfortunately, but there are a few nuggets in the slurry. I did enjoy hearing Natasha's outrage that Fallon is doing obvious, sensible things at The Bull even though it might hit Terum. I thought Natasha was supposed to be an entrepreneur!

Over to you!

Oh more Maliks.

And why can't Zainab work in a pub kitchen? Has she never been in an Indian restaurant? Which are often Pakistani or Bangladeshi.

Edited

I'm thinking that because she's turned down dates, and working in a pub, it's because she has 'traditional' Muslim views about dating and alcohol.

Is there anyone nice and sane in the environs that Kirsty could sell it to?

Or failing that she could sell it to daddy Malik, preferably for cash, this week.

Take That Tash.

Ok, I like that idea.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/03/2025 21:30

why would he think a house that stinks of shit better than the house opposite which stinks of shit, though?

Bruisername · 02/03/2025 21:43

Because owning a house that stinks of shit is much better than renting one?

so am I to understand Art has appeared or was this all by phone?

I think he turned up at chez Snell but I was fast forwarding on iplayer.

Bruisername · 02/03/2025 21:56

Right just speed listened

Akram is less Art than I was hoping.

after doing a bit of a heavy handed intro of the maliks it’s a bit odd they’ve given us a cliffhanger of will they or won’t they go elsewhere? I mean we all know they won’t

echt · 02/03/2025 21:58

I detested the lecturing tone of this episode, though liked the utterly convincing gift of the scarf from Adil to Lynda. It's just what he would do.

TottersBlithely · 02/03/2025 23:04

So are we all loyally staying up to support George’s Other Mother at the Oscars?

(Felicity Jones - nominated for Best Supporting Actress in The Brutalist!)

noodlezoodle · 02/03/2025 23:10

With the exception of tonight's heavy handed episode I'm quite enjoying it at the moment. Quite the comeback after all the scam week and pantomime nonsense.

Mind you I'm not enjoying it as much I am the Beaver Chronicles. (I originally wrote Gasp's Beaver Chronicles but that sounded utterly inappropriate).

WitcheryDivine · 02/03/2025 23:10

Wow it sounded as if Lynda is really having a mini gap year in her own house, trying to really UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE/get the right scarf but without any subtlety whatsoever. I don’t remember her being like this with her erstwhile lodger at all.

BeatriceBatchelor · 02/03/2025 23:32

Oh another Malik - what joy! Aren't there any actual Archers around?

Are we sure Khalil isn't being voiced by Ben?

TottersBlithely · 03/03/2025 01:04

Update on the script probably coming to Lower Loxley sometime soon. Because the SWs can’t avoid it for ever …

My sleep deprived mind wondered if the Maliks might have something to do with Grey Gables as Ardil was working there.

Nettleteaser101 · 03/03/2025 04:56

So why would Ardil send Robert a hat he wouldn't wear, I can understand the scarf for Lynda, I would of thought a nice Elephant statue or something like that. Ardil must know that Robert wouldn't wear that around the village or in his Hyde.
Also there was no mention of Ramadam when Ardil stayed with Lynda all that time, so why now?.
I think that Mr Malik will try and get his family to go to Pakistan and every one will refuse and he will go back alone leaving the doc and kids to fend for themselves ( which he has done for months anyway). Hope they stop with the Religious education soon. You never hear any one say Grace in any other home, and most of the Archers go to Church.

ExitPursuedByABare · 03/03/2025 05:19

I normally relisten if I’m awake in the wee small hours but …..

Gonners · 03/03/2025 07:13

I don't remember hearing anyone say grace since the late 60s, and that was before lunch at school. In fact I think school was the only place I ever heard it. When I moved to a Quaker school, it stopped.

If you own it you own the problems too. If you rent it you can walk away.

I have church-going friends and family who do, before every meal.

I obviously live in utterly godless circles! One of my cousins was married to a vicar (he wasn't a vicar when they married, so his decision came as something of a shock to her) and even they didn't do it.

@Nettleteaser101 , the level of ignorance in your post is shocking.

Bruisername · 03/03/2025 09:25

Pakistan has some interesting birds so a gift along those lines would have been better. But ultimately it was a gift to show he was thinking of them

i think it would be incredibly hard for them to move to Pakistan because they are all British born and it would be a big culture shock. Perhaps it’s what Zainab needs - a bit of perspective on life and the world and her heritage. But if I was azra I think my bigger concern would be health care given khalils history

Glorybox2025 · 03/03/2025 09:49

Well that was cringe. I was interested by the veiled reference to Palestine though. And WTF to the dad turning up right at iftar and without Azra speaking to Lynda about it first!

TheUsualChaos · 03/03/2025 10:05

Urgh nope, sorry this is not for me. I don't listen to TA for a RE lesson.

TheUsualChaos · 03/03/2025 10:07

And yes exactly! How rude to not let Lynda know he was turning up! One thing keeping a surprise for the kids but just basic manners to check with your very generous host first.
