Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd be delighted to oblige your employer by cleaning up sewage spills without proper training or equipment in place of your normal duties, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Credit for the title goes to @echt. Can't think of anything much to say about current storylines. Credulity is strained to its limit on many fronts, unfortunately, but there are a few nuggets in the slurry. I did enjoy hearing Natasha's outrage that Fallon is doing obvious, sensible things at The Bull even though it might hit Terum. I thought Natasha was supposed to be an entrepreneur!

Over to you!

Ha!

Gonners · 20/03/2025 17:59

Also Akram was trying to persuade Azra and the kids to move somewhere unspecified ... presumably either back to Solihull or to Pakistan, where he has been dealing with his late father's affairs. He may have inherited a business there.

Perhaps if the scriptwriters remember, we'll find out.

TottersBlithely · 20/03/2025 18:02

No, it was definitely a question of moving back to their old home. Azra shut it down pdq. (As nicely as she could.)

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/03/2025 11:55

I assumed that was a long time ago in Pakistan. How he got together with his doctor wife is a mystery.

Perhaps he sorted out her inside plumbing?

ExitPursuedByABare · 20/03/2025 18:27

There’s no need for that @muddyford

<hoiks bosom and clutches pearls>

Bruisername · 20/03/2025 18:47

I wonder if it is an arranged marriage. Surprised if sw would go down that route

TottersBlithely · 20/03/2025 19:07

Is there an echo in here …?

iratepirate · 20/03/2025 11:07

I enjoyed Freddie’s posh telephone voice.

And was amazed that Mr Malik has the time to be up to speed with the village website. Guess he doesn’t work..?

I liked how he got more posh the more stressed he got - thought it showed that really he just wants to fit in with others around him, whereas Lily definitely likes a higher stool.

Bruisername · 20/03/2025 19:15

the whole cricket thing is a nonsense and a waste of air time. How long has Pat been playing

and supporting the bell ringers 🙄. I’m with Neil that it will alienate people!!!

not sure why Kirsty was being so demanding and wouldn’t give them an hour. Why not just pull out and tell them it’s back on the market and they should call the agent if they are happy with the price and they’ll put it on the market in the meantime. Is she the type of nicey person who lets people walk all over her and then suddenly snaps? Cos that’s irritating

TottersBlithely · 20/03/2025 19:16

Fantastic dialogue today! GrinGrinGrin

echt · 20/03/2025 19:21

Excellent episode. Very funny, though I'm not sure that was the intention. I like the bit where Kirsty was enjoying Tom flailing about.

As an arranged marriage it's even more mysterious if she, as a young woman, had a potential professional career and he, as a young man, was carrying cardboard on his motorbike. Sorting out her plumbing is more likely. 🤣

TottersBlithely · 20/03/2025 20:25

I hope the SW intended the humour, @echt- it was rather well done. Absolutely loved Pat and Tony! Grin

TheUsualChaos · 20/03/2025 20:34

That was a great episode. Love the idea of Tom wasting an entire morning only to find Natasha had just rocked up and sealed the deal. So weird that she didn't call him once had her phone back though. I don't think Tom would have had the balls to agree a sale on his own.

PassivAggressivHaus · 20/03/2025 20:37

Poor Akram. Who'd expect someone that ancient to still be working.

JanFebAndOnwards · 20/03/2025 21:44

Who’s been writing this week, it’s been excellent, felt like old times!

PassivAggressivHaus · 20/03/2025 22:08

I must be living in Ambridge as I can't afford don't plan to retire, ever.
Fortunately, I'll still be playing cricket in a few (ahem!) decades, if the team won't have dropped me. I'll be childminding my great-grandchildren well into my 80s.

The writer is named on the Spoilers thread.

EBearhug · 21/03/2025 00:12

I'm a bit confused by the cricket plans, tbh. Surely you have a squad of members, and then you pick a team for each match according to who's available and who the best players are, but in village cricket, mostly who is available and if you're lucky, there will be at least 11 of those...

And previous years of Ambridge cricket have mostly focussed on can we even get enough players, let alone good ones?

echt · 21/03/2025 04:03

This. I'm finding it a bit unconvincing that making the Ambridge team is looking like being selected for England.

Nettleteaser101 · 21/03/2025 04:55

Yes why hadn't Natasha phoned Tom, has she had her phone then. It's not as if she had to find a phone box and 4 penny's.(showing me age).
Glad kirsty came out on top even though it was done off radio.
You can keep the cricket story line.

Nettleteaser101 · 21/03/2025 04:56

Yardbird · 21/03/2025 06:31

For the first time in ages I’m excited about catching up with the archers! Ive been reading this thread as a proxy for actually listening for months, with erratic omnibus and random week nights if I CBA, but there seems to be a bit of a flutter within you lovely lot about some decent writing… 😮

TottersBlithely · 21/03/2025 06:49

I’ve laughed out loud during at least two episodes this week - with genuine amusement, rather than pity for the SW.

That's what I was thinking and I don't really know anything about cricket.

Bruisername · 21/03/2025 07:58

it makes zero sense. They would let Pat and Tony train etc but just wouldn’t pick them for the match. Or they would because they’re always desperate🙄

the writing has been better mainly because the SL aren’t quite as ridiculous. Still have as many holes as a Swiss cheese though!!

hopefully Joy and mick have been locked in the basement by the Gills as punishment for the robovac
