Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd be delighted to oblige your employer by cleaning up sewage spills without proper training or equipment in place of your normal duties, or other unusual views.

Credit for the title goes to @echt. Can't think of anything much to say about current storylines. Credulity is strained to its limit on many fronts, unfortunately, but there are a few nuggets in the slurry. I did enjoy hearing Natasha's outrage that Fallon is doing obvious, sensible things at The Bull even though it might hit Terum. I thought Natasha was supposed to be an entrepreneur!

I usually make allowances for Helen as she has been through hell several times over.

But the way she and her family have treated C and S post poo flood is terrible. It's only the fact that they enjoy working together so much that they've stuck with it this long.

@NetballHoop pretty sure he got less than 10 years so if he's been behaving he could be out soon potentially? I can't remember how long ago he was sentenced, probably longer than I think!

Anyone with BBC-type sensibilities had better skip this post, but I wished so much that instead of those rather creepy fantasies about being wrapped in greaseproof paper we'd heard:

C: I have a pension
S: I have another job
S&C You know where you can stick it.

Followed by a negotiation as to whether they'd work out their last week.

I fear the one who gets it will be miserable because most of the joy in the job seemed to be doing it together

although no doubt Helen will get a massive order for her stinky cheese and they will both get to stay on. hurrah!

I must say, as someone suggested yesterday, I’ve always assumed the dairy work was a two person job. Not sure whether for the yoghurt or the cheese or whatever - but definitely something requiring four hands. Have I been imagining it wrong?

So is Zainab going to apply for the job (with some hitherto un mentoned food tech/hygiene quals)? We could have a whole new lecture about rennet being haram.

Wonders aloud if there is indeed a market for halal cheese in Borsetshire?

On Thursday 1st April, 2021 Kirsty heard that Philip Moss had been sentenced to eight years imprisonment and Gavin to five years. Gavin came out in 2023, or at least in December 2024 he told Kirsty he had come out "last year".

So are they letting people out at the halfway point these days? So could be an imminent release? How much longer are we expecting George to be in for?

I think people who know about these things have predicted that unless George blots his copybook in prison he will be out at the date of his sentencing, that is, 10th October. It might be sooner, apparently.

Fingers crossed George will be reformed

@Madcats All vegetarian cheese is halal.

the rennet was specifically called ‘vegetarian rennet’ which to me suggests they also use non-vegetarian rennet

or the sw were clumsily trying to make the point

so Pat and Helen will be working more in the dairy. Funny because when Emma left and then Fallon it was all a disaster and adam needed to change duties. And why did Emma suddenly find the time to take on the tearoom with the tree surgery? Would make much more sense to have kept the evening barmaid work as you don’t prune trees in the dark

@Bruisername To you maybe. They might refer to it as such because people can be a bit squeamish about rennet.

But that’s directed at the audience then because those at the dairy would know and wouldn’t need it signposted

But the dairy has an audience.
