Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd be delighted to oblige your employer by cleaning up sewage spills without proper training or equipment in place of your normal duties, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Credit for the title goes to @echt. Can't think of anything much to say about current storylines. Credulity is strained to its limit on many fronts, unfortunately, but there are a few nuggets in the slurry. I did enjoy hearing Natasha's outrage that Fallon is doing obvious, sensible things at The Bull even though it might hit Terum. I thought Natasha was supposed to be an entrepreneur!

Over to you!

Helen's tenancy hasn't ended. It doesn't end until she moves out or gets evicted by the court. So if she moves a lodger in it makes no difference if the lodger is the homeowner or not, Kirsty is still the lodger with no rights. It would be a very legally dodgy thing to do and extra foolish for Helen - as if Kirsty decided to illegally evict her she'd have additional difficulties proving it through court but ultimately she's the legal occupier until she voluntarily leaves. The landlord can't move in and end the tenancy agreement from inside the house!

The notice to quit ends the contractual tenancy. Helen hasn't challenged that.

She, or any other tenant, can't be evicted without a court decree but that's a separate issue. Eviction order is needed if a tenant refuses to accept the termination of the tenancy.

Edited

No it doesn't. Section 21 is notice to start the proceedings to end a tenancy but if the tenant doesn't leave the tenancy continues.

If Kirsty moves in the day after the s21 notice expires but Helen hasn't actually moved out then Helen's tenancy hasn't ended.

Section 21 eviction - Shelter England

Find out what a section 21 eviction is and the process private landlords must follow to end an assured shorthold tenancy (AST).

Natasha is a nasty bit.

Kirsty should get a backbone and tell Natasha and Tom to eff off.

If Kirsty had put it on open market originally it would have been sold by now but she let first Hellin mess her round and now Natasha and Tim. Actually n&t have been messing her around for weeks now.

Kirsty should move in, suck up the bad Phillip vibes, and list it again in a year. She will lose Willow whatever it's called but that's c'est la vie.

I hope Natasha falls into a cessfit and drowns.

Brefugee · 07/03/2025 15:55

the Malik's to buy the Beechwood house and Kirsty to buy Willow Farm as planned is my preference.
Still no chain AND Gnasher's nose put out of joint FTW

Gonners · 07/03/2025 15:56

It's a real shame Hazel Woolley isn't Natasha's landlord, as that's a confrontation I'd like to hear.

Bruisername · 07/03/2025 15:57

So mr malik is a plumber?

I'm glad if so because i dont really want another generic businessman

PassivAggressivHaus · 07/03/2025 15:59

I don't want to lose the Natasha character. She's great. Far more potential than any of the others.Grin

Agreed. She's a great addition to the village.

I do want to see her taken down a few pegs though.

This.
Imagine her IRL. She's like Linda with a bitch gene.

OverArmourer · 07/03/2025 17:17

I think it’s reasonable to want a reduction based on the spill (or to not buy) but the way she went about it was very… Natasha…

Also between Helen and Natasha they’ve messed her around for months.

OverArmourer · 07/03/2025 17:17

I think it would’ve been a more satisfying storyline if they had actually exchanged and then it flooded.

Yes! And tomnat hadn’t realised insurance was their responsibility

MorningCoffeePlease · 07/03/2025 17:45

"Kirsty should get a backbone and tell Natasha and Tom to eff off."

Ha ha @SaffyRosie, I came on to say almost EXACTLY the same words as you! Hope Kirsty will do this tonight and we won't be kept wondering.

PassivAggressivHaus · 07/03/2025 17:56

@Hercisback1 ,She's like Linda Lynda with a bitch gene.
She's not bitchy just lacking in self-awareness, as is Kate, but they are quite different characters.
Natasha is like a bull in a china shop.

Gonners · 07/03/2025 18:04

Where has the idea come from that Azra's husband is a plumber? Did I mentally tune out (as so often) and miss this revelation?

Me neither. But I fast forwarded the Maliks.

I think we've assumed he's some sort of tradesman as he mentioned having a van and how he hasn't gone to university but has done well in regards to the subject of Zainab and uni. Plumber would be my guess as well as they earn ££££ 😆

TottersBlithely · 07/03/2025 19:23

Ha! Natasha’s a wily one … Decades ago my mother, after weeks of relentless arm twisting from both my parents, succeeded in persuading me to change to the degree subject they preferred for me, using exactly the same soft soap technique as Natasha deployed just now.

Don’t listen to her, Kirsty! It’ll end badly (and you’ll still be mulling over what you could have done differently when the starry twins have grown up and left home).

TottersBlithely · 07/03/2025 19:25

I’m pretty sure he said something specifically plumbing related, in a conversation with Azra?

Me too!

TheUsualChaos · 07/03/2025 19:39

Oh probably, I do find my attention drifts more when it's the newer characters.

Natasha is so manipulative. Please don't let Kirsty be screwed over by Tom Archer yet again (ok, ok I know it's all Natasha but you know what mean!).

I don't know. I seem to have missed it too.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/03/2025 19:57

I am not about to go and try to find every conversation Mr Malik has had in order to find out whether or not he has mentioned being a plumber, but I also missed it when/if he did.
