Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to have a moribund camper van parked indefinitely outside your home, or other unusual views.

How could we possibly know when we had to listen to six new characters last week, plus Azra, Zainab and Khalil. Nine new additions, six of them fleeting, and no sign of three quarters of the regulars (irregulars) or whoever moved into Home Farm.

And yes I agree Mick is weirdly mucky, he does give me the creeps for some reason. The kind of man who you’d be desperate to get away from if you accidentally ended up standing next to him at the bar.

The RHS is trying to get us to love snails.

They're onto a hiding to nothing with me, I bloomin hate snails, although not quite as much as slugs. They even eat all the rat poison so the rats won't touch it, and then climb into the guinea pigs' feeding bowls. The bastards.

And @JanFebAndOnwards Yes, they seemed very happy in each other's company. Normally in drama nothing happens without a reason, but there has been so much pointlessly happening of late that I'm reluctant to put too much reliance on it except as a pointer to the deepening rifts in the respective marriages. Ed and Fallon getting together would be such a bad idea for both of them that maybe it will happen after all.

I'd rather have sausage rolls, personally.

I also wondered about Ed and Fallon. They went out for a bit years ago, didn't they? Bandmates before that. Ed knew Fallon well long before Em did. Jazzer had a lengthy crush on her, just to complicate matters.

i would be very disappointed in Ed if he had an affair with fallon tbh. And we’ve already had one massive village impacting SL - not sure I could bear years of the fallout from an affair or Ed and Fallon getting together and Emma having to live in the village with them

ive gone off fallon so whilst I used to think she deserved better than Harrison I now think she probably doesn’t! Not that Ed would be an improvement

I like a sausage roll as much as the next person, but absent a specific occasion like contributing to a picnic or group event, taking round sausage rolls seems odd.

Did I miss something? Is Emma's kitchen out of use?

I love the German words that just says what it does on the tin

I like the russian “honey eater” = bear

and names of moths which are very literal “what’s that mark on its wing?” - Silver Y or Hebrew Character or Chinese Character.

Or scientific names of plants - sticky white = Viscum album = mistletoe (as eaten by the mistletoe eating (mistle) thrush Turdus viscivorus), or the Acer that looks like a Plane (sycamore). Not to mention the fungus Phallus impudicus which needs no other description (except for a warning not to take one on a bus).

I think there was some Ed and Fallon stuff seeded when she was teaching him a dance (?) for Emma’s surprise party. Also, there would be additional fallout because George loves Fallon.

Poor Fallon. Her life is not great so a love affair with someone nice would be just the ticket. I just don’t put Ed in that category- even though I know there is a lot of love on this thread for him. She really could do better. The problem is that Ambridge is really thin on attractive men. It’s such a gap in the line-up.

I think it’s inevitable that Emma will rekindle with Will at some point- whether now or in the future. It’s just a SL waiting to happen and presumably the SWs have been planning it for decades.

I don’t think an affair is to be admired even if she is married to Harrison

Garden snails are rarely edible, sadly, they're not even useful for that!

Only certain species are edible, and then you have to go through a whole process of starving them to purge them of nasties (some people feed them on flour during this period), which takes a week or more. Then the traditional method of preparation is also time consuming (and gross, and quite cruel).

The buggers can't even make themselves useful about the place! If only we had some hedgehogs who could feast on them.

Remember all the fuss about sausage rolls for Emma’s 40th? She must be well known for her love of them, which does make Joy’s gesture all the kinder. I liked that scene.
