Lily Allen - This Cultural Life

Anyone hear this?! She chose Squeeze's 'Up the Junction' as one of her influences and said something along the lines because it was so 'upbeat and happy'!!! Idiot.

I imagine her Manager saying something like 'Think out of the box - don't choose all SKA / Motown / Soul. Demonstrate that you listen to other stuff released before you were born'. Perhaps they should have drafted a list.

I really like Lily Allen and I love the podcast she is doing with Miquita Oliver. I don't think Lily's Mum had much money when they were young kids after Keith Allen walked out and I think the lyrics of the Squeeze song are reminding her of that. She is very honest and lovely to hear 2 such good friends talking.

I agree! Used to think the same as most posters on this thread, but since listening to her Miss Me podcast my opinion has changed. She is honest, funny - comes across as quite detached sometimes but she's also open about this and her childhood.

Obviously Miquita Oliver has clawed her way up too - and never taken advantage of her mother, Andi Oliver's, connections.

Lily Allen obviously had a privileged life in many ways, but it sounds like she was largely emotionally neglected whilst her mother forged a successful career, and her dad just sounds like a selfish horror-show. No amount of perceived privilege can make up for feeling invisible to your parents.

I think she comes across as funny, intelligent and has an ability to self-reflect on her shortcomings.
