Suggestions for a daily podcast

My routine has changed and I'm looking for a podcast I can listen to early each weekday morning.

I have audiobooks and my regular podcasts but unless I find 5 excellent podcasts for each day, I need something to keep me going. I've tried some news ones but they are often largely business news.

Any suggestions ?

Are you specifically looking for podcasts that upload every day 5x a week? I don’t think I know of any unless there are general news ones.

You could find something you like that’s been going for a while and so has a huge back catalogue of things to listen to? It’s hard to suggest one as you haven’t said what you’re into but when I got into walking in 2020 I listened to the whole Morbid Podcast catalogue. They’re still going 4 years later so lots to listen to. There’s also Casefile True Crime, The Deck, Crime Junkie. I listened to lots of True Crime during lockdown but gone off it now.

BBC have endless podcasts about all types of things. I also like history ones - I listened to History for Weirdos recently.

Then there’s the chatty pods like Newlyweds, My Therapist Ghosted Me…. Again, it just depends on your ‘style’ - you might hate everything I’ve suggested!

I try to listen to different ones every day.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays I listen to The Rest is Entertainment - the Thursday episode is a Q&A, which is great. It's Richard Osman and Marina Hyde talking about TV, movies, books and the entertainment industry.

On Wednesdays I listen to Off Menu - James Acaster and Ed Gamble talking to people about their dream meal. Start off with the one with Claudia Winkleman.

On Mondays and Fridays I listen to the Diary of a CEO, where Stephen Bartlett talks to a guest. I loved his earlier shows more than his later ones. They can be incredibly interesting.

There's also:

How Did We Get Here? - Claudia Winkleman and Tanya Byron
Dear Therapists
Happy Place - Fearne Cotton
I'm Absolutely Fine!
Now You're Asking - Marian Keyes and Tara Flynn (very light, though)

BBC Sounds back catalogue: Fortunately, with Jane Garvey and Fi Glover
Times Radio: Off Air (as above - they moved and changed the name)

Audible: The Rest is Politics (and their sister show, Leading), with Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart

BBC Sounds: The Today Podcast, with Amol Rajan and Nick Robinson

Thanks. I didn't put detail thinking I wouldn't get replies. I do like true crime (although I've generally avoided those about children) and I've listened to morbid before, so something with a long catalogue is a good idea. I've listened to most of the obvious ones so I'll have to do a good search. I have an audible account as well so I can search on there.

As much as I like to think spontaneous, a list and routine would suit me. Thanks.

Thanks, I haven't listened to any of these so that's a great start.

I was spontaneous, OP, until I'd heard all the episodes. Now I have to wait for a new one!

DidSomebodySayEnnui · 03/05/2024 15:21

Depends how long you have too...

Therealmetherealme · 14/05/2024 05:54

Just want to come back and say thanks for the recommendations. I've now got a long list, I've taken recommendations from each of you. I've found Apple Podcasts works well to combine them all and I generally listen to the daily podcasts first (currently listening to Today in Parliament) then move onto Crime Junkie or the other more 'fun' pods. It's just a little something for me.
