What next after Cabin Pressure and It's A Fair Cop?

We have a 5ish hour drive tomorrow.
DC are 12 and 15. And back again on Friday.

Cabin Pressure has filled hours and hours of driving time for us. We've listened to it all the way through 3 or 4 times. We've recently mixed it up a bit with Its A Fair Cop.

Can anyone suggest anything ever we might all enjoy? (I never really "got" Old Harry's Game).

Try Listen Against, Bleak Expectation, Welcome to our Village please invade carefully, Warhorses of Letters, ThatMitchell & Webb Sound, anything by PG Wodehouse (Radio 4 usually have some Jeeves & Wooster in sounds), ReincarNathan, You’re dead to me, Mark Steel’s in Town or My First Planet if you can get it. Might also be worth giving I’m Sorry I haven’t a Clue a go.

So jealous of your kids hearing all these for the first time!

Sadly, they have heard a few of them already, but I know what you mean. We're all big fans of ISIHAC and dh has "You're Dead To Me" on frequently.

I really like In and Out of the Kitchen.

I was gutted that the Bill Bailey one was so terrible.

Newest series of room 101, my teenage diary , ken cheng Chinese comedian, reluctant persuaders a comedy about an advertising agency has Josie Laurence and Nigel Havers, the unbelievable truth, Adrian mole, maybe Alone a comedy about people who live in flats in a converted house has Angus Deayton in it. Also there was a new episode of it's a fair cop today. If they don't mind historical Eleanor rising is fantastic, a drama about the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine, but very engaging and with some good feminist messaging.

I also love conversations from a long marriage but teens might not

The Greg Jenner series 'you're dead to me'. Radio edits though for family listening
Really funny

Chickenrunning · 02/04/2024 07:53

My kids like ‘Unbelievable Truth’.

Zyq · 02/04/2024 09:11

Mark Steele's In Town is great for a long journey, as there are several series of it.

Zyq · 02/04/2024 09:11

On podcasts, The Rest is Entertainment.

hollysmumma · 02/04/2024 09:25

I can't seem to find Cabin pressure available.

1stWorldProblems · 02/04/2024 09:53

Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Conversations from a Long Marriage
Good Omens & other R4 dramatisations of Neil Gaiman's work. (Not the Audible Sandman with kids as too much horror.)
I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue

Oh yes. Good shout!

Fags, Mags and Bags went down well!!

I have listened to Conversations from a Long Marriage in the past. I'm not sure the teens would get it.

@Keeprejoining I listened to five episodes of "And how does that make you feel" today and loved them. I see there are more series - there's a compilation for sale on Audible - but just wondered if you can fathom how to get them for free via BBC Sounds or the bbc website? I can't see them on there but wanted to ask before using my Audible credit. Thank you.

The Consultants

and I think there was ‘Hamish and Dougall’?

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/05/2024 20:20

As well as In and Out of the Kitchen, I’d recommend The Wilsons Save the World. I love it, it’s hilarious. The Unbelieveable Truth might be good too, you can play along by trying to guess the truths!

Just not Fags Mags and Bags - I’ve had more fun standing on a three pin plug.

GlomOfNit · 10/05/2024 08:32

For several years now, our long-haul car drives have been powered by Cabin Pressure, Bleak Expectations and JF's Souvenir Programme (whichever we can find on cd, anyway). I will only whisper it, but I'm getting a tiny bit bored with them now. (DS will be horrified)

Need to find some more things of that ilk before summer holidays, and preferably on cd because we lack the wherewithal for anything clever.

When we were kids (well, teenagers) we used to listen to all my Ben Elton, Not the Nine O'Clock News and Jasper Carrott cassettes for holiday driving! Grin

nathalie haynes stands up for the classics if you have any liking for greek myth really interesting and funny.
the penny dreadfuls are brilliant too - EDIT they are about historical stories but funny eg richard the third rebothered, the odyssey, macbeth, guy fawkes...

sytron · 16/05/2024 09:55

Also John Finnemore's double acts! again clever twists and funny
