Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

I just watched that, and Bolt looked lovely, although quite, er, enthusiastic in his grappling 😂 Bolt’s a softy. I happened to be in Huddersfield, so I asked at the ticket office if there was any chance of seeing them, and the lady said “Felix is asleep, and nobody disturbs her sleep and gets away with it, but Bolt’s here” and she handed me across the counter this amazing huge black cat.

I’ve not listened for nearly a year now but am happily reading these threads to keep up to date in the hope that one day you’ll all be enthusing about a marvellous storyline and I’ll be compelled to tune in.

saying all that, why has no one ever suggested Feliway to calm down Hilda? It’s not as if there aren’t any characters that work with animals in the near vicinity that would know this.

(It certainly works on the cat ruler of this household, less hissy and bitey, more chilled)

Shambridge · 09/02/2024 11:11

@Flamme ,Tom doesn't live in a flat. Because Helen's children are not like other children.

I'm out of date then. Where is he living now?

Those of you who say texted. Are you saying text-ed. Because unless you're doing that, I can't hear any difference between that and text.

I say texted. Two syllables. Similar to tested, rested etc.

Flamme · 10/02/2024 10:53

There's not a chance in hell that Hilda will become a farm cat, but by the time Tony realises that she will be so firmly settled that there will be no way he can rehome her.

I think he and Natasha and the sainted twins are living in April Cottage, which used to be Kathy's abode. They rent it. Who lives in Keeper's Cottage next door, which used to be rented by the Grundy clan and belongs to Hazel Woolley? I have a dim memory of Richard Locke living there when he returned to Ambridge. What a damp squib that was, as he then disappeared again having featured so little that they might as well not have bothered writing him back in. Did that coincide with lockdown and the great hiatus?

Richard Locke appeared and vanished again long before lockdown, first speaking on 6th April, 2015, when he turned up at the Messiah in St Stephen's and spoke to Shula afterwards. He vanished again on leaving The Bull in the company of Debbie on 27th December, 2016.

He did indeed rent Keeper's Cottage from Hazel, and for all we have heard of him since 2016 he still may do.

Shambridge · 10/02/2024 13:47

Maybe he works with Azra.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/02/2024 13:55

Azra is in the newly-invented surgery at Darrington and Locke was in Felpersham-I-think. Rob went there to avoid being seen taking a paternity test by anyone from Ambridge, and walked into Locke's surgery.

Didn’t he briefly entangle with Elizabeth when Shula thought he had the hots for her after she left Alistair? Something about a brooch for somebody’s birthday? Then he disappeared again.

Elizabeth, realising that he was a boyfriend of her sister's whom she hadn't tried to get off with, made a pass or two at him but was not successful. I think he enlisted her to help him choose a brooch for Shula's birthday, which properly put her in her place.

I’d forgotten all about Richard Locke.
I hate, hate, hate how Susan and Clarrie, who’ve worked in the dairy since approximately 1825, can’t be trusted without a posho on the premises.

Absolutely! See my class divide post above. I thought things were getting better for a bit, but it seems to be getting even worse than before.

I used to be West Yorkshire. Until the boundary shifted.

And who could forget the legendary cat of the Scala cinema who prowled the arena waiting to leap up on unsuspecting laps just at the scariest moments in the Friday-night slasher movie specials…..ah, happy times!

I was in Kings Cross a week or so ago (I don't live in London anymore) and glanced up at the Scala, thinking about the Golden Turkeys and the all-nighters. Great fun.

I only have one RL Archers friend and he's in Bolton. Unless we've never discussed our shared passion! 🤣

Does anyone remember Tiddles - the fat cat who lived in the ladies' loos at Paddington Station? https://londonist.com/london/history/tiddles-fat-cat-paddington-station In fact I had completely forgotten until you started discussing station cats, a quick google soon found him!

Tiddles - The Fat Cat Of Paddington Station

For 13 years, this cat was a tourist attraction in its own right.

Yes; I remember him well. He was there at a time when I quite often travelled from Paddington.

Erm so what are the dream team going to do to Jolene then?! Or what carnage is the ‘dream team’ going to wreck on the Bull…?
