Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

Ah ok. Wonder if it had a preservation order on it

Even if it did that makes absolutely no difference; they can't just glue it back together, it's dead. So they pay a paltry fine and carry on as if nothing had happened.

It is a lot easier to pay a fine than to get permission to cut down a tree with a trunk more than ten inches in diameter.

What I don't understand is that the place was said by Jim and Alistair to be nearly finished, and usually the destruction of trees happens quite early in a development, when land is being cleared before building starts. It's rather late in the day for this particular offence to be committed.

Bruisername · 29/02/2024 19:41

oh sure - it’s no doubt going to lead to mia chaining herself to something. I doubt it will lead to a SL where the local council does anything useful

they never seem to build anything logically. Grey gables for eg

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/02/2024 20:00

She'd be too late: that tree is dead.

My feeling about Mia chaining herself to something is roughly along the lines "and then someone could come along and install chains of their own so she can't just wander away when she gets bored, and then they could forget about her over night."

Harrison was called to an incident of a blind drunk man who then tried to get into his car to drive home. It was Harry, who's going out with Alice. Harrison told Fallon and between the two of them they ended up alerting Alice, who as a recovering alcoholic was aghast. Harry worked out that Harrison must have broken confidentiality. Harrison has reported himself to his senior officer, who pointed out it was the second time at least that this had happened, as years ago Harrison tipped Kirsty Miller off that Philip Moss, her husband at the time, was involved in modern slavery. On that occasion the Inspector had been able to ignore it because Philip Moss made no official complaint. This time she feels she can't.

OH Thanks so much that really it explains it well!😁I'm up to speed now!

Edited

I’m imagining her chaining herself to some bush which is actually an invasive species - maybe a big bit of bamboo. Surrounded by builders in their hi vis and hard hats wondering if they’re supposed to do something or just go and get a cuppa and get on with their work

is it that easy to hire a helicopter to fly over your neighbourhood?

do we know when the charging station is due to open?

Shambridge · 29/02/2024 20:23

is it that easy to hire a helicopter to fly over your neighbourhood? Yes, where I am.

Bruisername · 29/02/2024 20:25

Interesting. I’ve been on one as a child but don’t really like the idea anymore!!

I know; but if she Cares so much she shouldn't mind suffering a bit herself, rather than making other people suffer.

Being a nasty individual who lives in the real world, I always wonder what the people who superglue their hands to things think they are going to do when they need a pee.

Roysnewshirt · 29/02/2024 21:45

Kind of Susan to say she would rather be married to a pig farmer than a billionaire.

Eastie77Returns · 29/02/2024 22:12

I think in the long run I’d be happier with a pig farmer. I imagine being married to a billionaire would be very odd and stressful (but that’s probably because I’ve never had much money!)

Tarmacadamia · 01/03/2024 04:03

I'm surprised nobody has commented on the utter stupidity of "parcours in the pub" and Jazzer's motivational speech. Maybe it's best to pretend none of that happened.

Shouldbehoovering · 01/03/2024 05:56

Well yes, but it was worth having the idea for Jim’s utterly lovely description of Parkour. I listened again!

WombatCowgirl · 01/03/2024 06:20

How can you possibly do parkour inside a pub? It is just playing " the floor is lava". I also agree David's friends and family are unlikely to say go for it, the most important thing is to be happy, cheating is society's only remaining social taboo. An elderly man of Jim's generation, a newly married and devoted husband saying "YOLO" basically, seems so unlikely. Did Jim's abuser have the right to be happy, by that logic? Has anyone asked if Denise feels the same way?

It used to be a regular thing at the Grapes (I think) in Sharrow Vale, Sheffield. A lot of climbers groups used to meet there and they had to get round the room without touching the floor. Possibly not technically 'parcour' but I assumed that's the kind of thing they meant.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/03/2024 10:22

is it that easy to hire a helicopter to fly over your neighbourhood? you can hire a helicopter to fly anywhere. Expensive, though. Hopefully there’s a helicopter place near Ambridge that the SWs haven’t told us about, otherwise it will have been an expensive ride.

yes, 16 miles from Borchester

Seriously? Self preservation would decree the same answer.

Bruisername · 01/03/2024 10:36

Surely the answer is dependent on Neil being the pig farmer and the billionaire being someone different (please don’t let the sw be thinking of a Susan/justin affair!)

now the right answer is surely ‘Neil, I don’t care if you are a pig farmer or a billionaire, it is you I want to be married to’

Maybe that’s what we were doing?

Possibly not technically 'parcour' but I assumed that's the kind of thing they meant. Parkour is a bit showier and a lot more dangerous. By definition you can’t do it in a carpark (not unless he’s going to do it over the cars).

Low level climbing, including along the bottom edge of a climbing wall, is “bouldering”. Harder than it looks, partly because going up feels more natural than going sideways, partly because the scope for low level injury is greater falling a metre or so to the ground than coming off higher up and swinging on a rope.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 01/03/2024 19:19

Wow … That was proper.

First time in ages I haven’t been bored rigid.

FizzingAda · 01/03/2024 19:26

Yes, that was rather good tonight. Righteous fisticuffs at dawn!

Bruisername · 01/03/2024 19:27

No tpo - is that likely? All seems a bit ridiculous that Jim just assumed they wouldn’t touch it

Eastie77Returns · 01/03/2024 19:34

Alice is a complete and utter imbecile. And now she’s lost her only friend we have all the hand wringing and self pity to look forward to. That said, I hope this doesn’t drive her back to the bottle.

newtlover · 01/03/2024 19:38

its like she doesn't understand how the real world works

I admit I wasn't listening properly to the set up for parcour in the pub, but I kind of assumed they never really expected it to happen and it was just a ruse to get people to the pub
