Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

@TopOfTheCliff Partial weight bearing makes stairs a lot easier than none weight bearing I agree.

Bruisername · 06/02/2024 19:15

Harry’s voice is pretty painful to listen to. Her mother is irritating. Or is that what nice people are supposed to sound like? He’s definitely a mummy’s boy. So what’s wrong with him? Bit intense given how long they’ve been dating. Is that normal these days?

it’s a bit pathetic the whole Kenton thing and staying with Lynda. She deserves free drinks for life

what were Lynda’s injuries?

Bruisername · 06/02/2024 19:15

Kenton’s closing line

jolenes a gonner?

RegimentalSturgeon · 06/02/2024 19:33

what were Lynda’s injuries?

Transient fracture of the pelvis and quick-healing burns to scalp and face. Her rapid recovery was nothing short of ludicrous miraculous

SequentialAnalyst · 06/02/2024 19:34

@Bruisername you said jolenes a gonner?

You literally took the post right out of my keyboard! This is word for word what I thought at the end of the episode, and what I was going to postGrin

Kenton’s closing line

jolenes a gonner?

That was my immediate thought. In those exact words.

I often grumble on here that the SWs abandon storylines ( Natasha’s spending?!) or conclude them too quickly ( George The Incel) but Im actually praying for them too quickly bury both the Harry romance and The Bull storylines at the moment. If they can manage to put both to bed in the same scene that would be even better.

Sidebeforeself · 06/02/2024 20:24

Actually I don’t know what’s worse..listening or reading the synopsis on BBC Sounds. Just read last nights re the scenes with Adam, Carries and Susan..”As they are leaving he winds Susan up, telling her that her hair is hanging out of her hair net”

Give. Me. Strength.

now I have a religious chant stuck in my head. ‘Harry Harry CHRIS nah!’ If only I was good with creating sound files Grin

Thanks for the new thread!

this was my point too (re Velpy!). Do they need to take a breath between words? I assumed with Velpy (to start) it was some sort of neurodiverse characteristic but this hasn’t become apparent with time.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 06/02/2024 20:56

Well if poor Jolene shuffles, her pub is surely going to her daughter. (There’s no other point to Fallon than waiting to take over The Bull.)

Should be a smooth transition as Kenton’s already living somewhere else!

But really, if Shula, Elizabeth and Kenton all end up widowed - Ruth may want to pack a hasty bag and run very fast back to New Zealand.

Sidebeforeself · 06/02/2024 21:00

Surely there wouldn’t be another fire though?

Like so many others, that was what I thought too.

I had to smile at Kenton faced with the stairs. As another who has had screws in my calcaneum, I went up our two flights of stairs on my arse once, got carpet burns, then had a bed brought down to the kitchen. You have to be young and fit to hop upstairs.

Thanks for the new thread @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I broke my ankle when I was 20 and couldn't put weight on it at all for around 8 weeks. I got really quite good at getting up and down stairs with crutches, though they were the ones that go under your armpits which might actually have made it easier. I definitely didn't hop up, so I must have developed some sort of technique for using the crutches - possibly in conjunction with the banister - but I can't remember what it was.

adil, harry remind me of the velvy character in silent witness. very wooden, unbelievable delivery.

is acting school teaching it this way? or do actors no longer stem from acting school?

Isn't the Silent Witness character meant to be autistic?

AngryBirdsNoMore · 06/02/2024 23:19

I hope your recovery goes well @TopOfTheCliff!

I suspect Natasha's spending will come back - it's a slow burner SL around inheriting her father's bipolar disorder. They were like that with Alice, so far as I remember: there were signs of her drinking too much years before the alcoholism SL developed. Just occasionally they do these things properly.

SequentialAnalyst · 06/02/2024 23:47

If they do a bipolar story around Natasha, then I will definitely stop listening.

WitcheryDivine · 07/02/2024 00:18

Oh bugger I’ve just thought that the dodgy wiring at the Bull is there to get blamed for any fire isn’t it. Sorry you probably all worked that out ages ago.

I thought Kenton and Lynda were quite sweet this evening. One thing I’ll say for HARRY. and. Adil. They do make me really fondly appreciate the likes of Kenton, Susan, Clarrie etc. yes they’re all annoying characters at times but I really believe in them and have a clear view of them in my head. Harry just sounds like a cardboard cutout labelled “suspicious posh man”.

OverArmour · 07/02/2024 00:51

I thought the reason that Ian and Susan became friends last time was because Adam had already helped out at the dairy (I’ve checked, it was two years ago) hence inviting her round, and they already had the same storyline where Susan finds out Adam’s actually OK - after expecting him to be officious.

But this time they seem to be repeating the storyline, but the other way round, where Adam actually is officious, with no reference to the original storyline? I’m confused. It wasn’t even that long ago.

BeatriceBatchelor · 07/02/2024 03:44

The actress playing MUM! Of. Harry sounded familiar. Like Juliet Stevenson?

Grimchmas · 07/02/2024 05:56

I'm not feeling up to listening to a fire and Jolene being deaded. I'm going back to reading this thread before I listen to each episode 🙃
