Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

That's good news if he does as sensible a job of keeping Lynda contained as Graham Blockey managed to.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 26/02/2024 19:08

I too am glad we won’t have to have Lynda bereaved and grieving - life is quite hard enough all round already.

Ha! Completely forgot to turn on Radio 4 …

Bruisername · 26/02/2024 19:15

Alice started that oddly. The expensive gift was a red flag. And him knowing what books Martha does and doesn’t have.

he's a big baby so is going to kick off big time with Harrison

alastair/jazzer convo was a bit icky. Glad jazzer spoke sense

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/02/2024 19:22

Here's a thing: her obvious, genuine surprise when Harry told her that Harrison had arrested him might have indicated to Harry that in fact, her informant had been someone else.

Tomorrow, of course, Harry will confront Harrison about it and Harrison will quite fail to do a convincing job of denying it, so that was a bit of a wasted effort, but still, points to Alice for it.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 26/02/2024 19:28

Yes to all that. I thought Harry would himself have exclaimed - Oh, it can’t have been Harrison, then!

DeanElderberry · 26/02/2024 19:43

I'm delighted we're going to have an alive and non-silent Robert. I know he won't sound the same, but he's such a nice man, and Ambridge and the world needs nice men.

Sidebeforeself · 26/02/2024 19:47

I want them to re-cast Roy too. He has too many potential storylines and dynamics with other characters to be silent

Yes!

Shambridge · 26/02/2024 20:07

That is good news, but it's quite a task to play Robert as well as Graham Blockey did. He was brilliant and I loved the character.
BOOP for Alice.

RT should have got the actor's surname right instead of getting it wrong twice.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 26/02/2024 20:43

I don’t know about Roy … Who are all those characters he’d be dramatically interacting with? His Archer daughter has left Ambridge, all his other relatives are in Birmingham or further afield - so no potential for any family drama. Kirsty renting a room in his house is so unrealistic as to be unsustainable in any event …

There’s really no friction or rivalry or inheritance drama on the horizon - as far as I can see. The most natural storyline would have been for him to realise he couldn’t live without Lexi - though that would be a stretch after all these years. I would just like Roy, as a character, to move on and live happily ever after somewhere else.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/02/2024 20:44

Twice and in two different ways: Brockley and Blockley. Then they got it right, at the end when they were quoting Jeremy Howe; perhaps he gave them his quote in writing!

Sidebeforeself · 26/02/2024 20:58

@TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore

For a start Roy had a pivotal role at GG, and would definitely be the centre of the reopening and rebranding. Then he has his long standing will/they wont they relationship with Kirsty. He could have new storylines with Kate and Phoebe. He could find a new romance too.

He was also close friends with Jazzer who needs new storylines away from Tracey et al.

So I think he’s a very versatile character who could be either at the centre of storylines or at the edges of many. He’s not an exciting character, but a versatile one.

Sidebeforeself · 26/02/2024 20:59

I may have used the word “storylines” too much in that last post.

Oh well, who knows? The SWs may agree with you rather than me!

OverArmour · 26/02/2024 21:32

Maybe it will be Harrison that dies and Fallon will find out she’s pregnant afterwards and then have to decide what to do.

It’s quite handy for plot lines to have a local copper in the cast list and there would be no point killing H off, only to introduce a replacement policeman. I think he will keep his job for the same reason. I know he’s not particularly popular on this thread but I quite like Harrison (except when he found God and thankfully that twist has been quietly dropped). I do, however, agree that choppy waters lie ahead for him and F - they have been sounding dangerously happy.

Well done Alice. Would have been more interesting if she had started drinking again - ‘oh go on then, a small glass of champagne to celebrate your new horse won’t hurt’ - but I’m glad for her sake she had the strength to throw Harry out instead.

I hope I’m wrong too if only to avoid more depressing grief scenes. I quite like them as a couple.

WitcheryDivine · 26/02/2024 22:34

I’m enjoying the writing this week.

Harry’s odious little scrote side came out beautifully in his whinge about Harrison’s privacy breach.

BeatriceBatchelor · 26/02/2024 22:40

Harry’s odious little scrote side came out beautifully

Good description of Harry. And he behaved similarily when he first arrived at the Stables kicking off about something.

Can't help wondering what was the point of Harry being in the Archers?

EBearhug · 26/02/2024 23:04

I guess he shows us how far Alice has come.

OutingPosts · 27/02/2024 00:05

I wonder if Alice will fall sobbing into Chris's arms. I do hope so. Maybe he'll finally tell her about Harry's unexplained late night call to him.

We surely can't have heard the last of Harry

BeaLola · 27/02/2024 00:50

I hope Harry stays away from confronting Harrison.

Many threads back I predicted Alice and Chris to be reunited (before Xmas - just didn't say which Christmas Grin).

Good news re Robert

Bruisername · 27/02/2024 06:33

well from what the continuity announcer said last night I think Harrison is done for career wise

would he really lose his job for that though? Or would he be demoted etc

BeatriceBatchelor · 27/02/2024 06:53

I wonder if the pp who predicted Fallon and Harrison taking over the pub was right. I'd love it is Jolene became a silent character but wouldn't want to lose Kenton.

howdyho · 27/02/2024 07:29

Great, well done Alice!💪
