Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

What's Vernon up to?

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/02/2024 20:31

Vernon?

EBearhug · 18/02/2024 20:34

Vince?

I assume he knows dodgy people.

Shambridge · 18/02/2024 20:38

I was just joining in. Grin

Bruisername · 18/02/2024 20:39

I feel like I listened to an episode with a different cast!!

Shambridge · 18/02/2024 20:50

Josh and Keira were on form.

I'm enjoying this. More fun than the programme itself.

Ooh Arr me hearties!

EBearhug · 18/02/2024 21:03

Best of tonight's episode, for sure...

I like EdnEm talking together and any discussion of farming/outdoor work is good.
Would like to have heard Elizabeth, one of my favourite voices and I always find her interesting.

I would really struggle if I was married to Ed. He is just so thick. His habit of repeating every line Emma says as if she is speaking in a foreign language and he is trying to translate her complex sentences is particularly irritating. Add that to the Grundy whining and self-pity and I would be out of there before you could say Texan Ram!

She really backed the wrong horse when she chose Ed.

I agree. When she was talking to Ed yesterday it was like listening to a teacher gently explaining something to a 5 year old.

howdyho · 19/02/2024 11:43

Well, perhaps Emma will be the brains and he'll be the brawn in their tree surgeon business.
Ed has a lot of good qualities, I've always had a soft spot for him and have never liked Will very much especially after he tried to strangle Ed!

Sidebeforeself · 19/02/2024 18:04

MeanEd are always going on about how they never have any “munee” but yet they can suddenly find the money to retrain, set up a new business etc.

Bruisername · 19/02/2024 19:16

plenty of money for cake as well 🙄

tomorrow sounds like it will be ridiculous

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 19/02/2024 19:19

‘Ello you two!

😍

How dare Will try to muscle in and take over? Angry

But essentially anyone pro-Titchener is going to be seen as anti-Bridge Farm?

newtlover · 19/02/2024 19:26

wierd about the 2 cakes though

They are going to try to get it from the bank.

This presumably means they have bank accounts which are not on the edge of overdrawn the whole time. And that Ed has paid off the credit card he could no longer use at one point because they wouldn't let him.

Bruisername · 19/02/2024 19:30

I don’t think miles is a villain - would be odd to make him one. Sounds like they’re talking up his farming reach though

They are going to try to get it from the bank

Funny to hear them say they have an appointment at the bank on Friday. In my experience all loans and mortgages these days are sorted out online or on the phone. Given bank closures and post-Covid you’re never going to be asked to come in and see the bank manager. It all sounded a bit 1970s…More evidence the SLs really don’t know how the world works.

My first thought at hearing the trail for tonight’s episode was ‘well I won’t be listening to that…’

You can still have appointments at the bank. I have had several appointments recently although admittedly not about a loan.

Bruisername · 20/02/2024 08:05

Ambridge does seem to be a different world

  • a thriving village pub
  • bank branches everywhere
  • no rural unemployment judging by how hard getting casual staff for the bull is
  • GP appointments easily available - to the point the GP is ringing around to arrange appointments

I'm sure there are more!

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 20/02/2024 08:30

Further greetings from ‘Beechwood’. Grin

There is a lovely and thriving village pub. Had fish and chips and half a pint of cider there yesterday.

On my walk up the hill I passed the entrance to ‘The Laurels’ about ten minutes walk from the centre of the village. Very long drive, couldn’t see the house - but even the sign at the gate indicates it must cost about a million pounds per week to live there.

There is a stately home whose distant turrets suggest it might be grander than LL.

One thing Ambridge doesn’t appear to have is a ‘posh street’. There are lovely houses dotted about everywhere here, jeek by jowl with rows of picturesque terraced cottages - but one particular street, leading down to the church, is completely rammed with ancient and modern architect-designed residences, all competing to portray the most enviable lifestyles. Outside of Lincoln’s Inn and an Oxford prep school I’ve never seen so many luxury cars in one small area. We rarely hear about this aspect of village life in Ambridge …

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 20/02/2024 11:14

(What the jeff is a ‘jeek’? Hmm)

(You did ask....)

Could a kind person reveal what the continuity announcer said at the end of last night's episode? I listened on catch up so didn't hear it. TIA.
