Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g a relative bought a flat in Deptford many moons ago but told anyone who asked “I more or less live in Blackheath Village”😭

I love Leeds. I’ve only visited a few times but it seems like such a lovely city and of course friendlier than London!

The Bull staffing SL is tedious and I’m already bored hearing Kenton moaning about his injuries.

Does anyone else think the ‘prank’ Susan and Clarrie was not very funny? Imagine if Adam had fallen for it and spent hours and petrol driving around to all those shops.

Nothing to say about tonight's episode. Too depressed by the rubbish that TA has become Sad

Sidebeforeself · 12/02/2024 19:29

I work on Quarry Hill where the flats used to be. I also walked past them every day on my way to school.

It's something of a relief to see that I am not the only one who found tonight's episode very much below the standard I might once have expected of TA. I thought that it was seriously poor, both writing and content.

RegimentalSturgeon · 12/02/2024 19:39

That poor calf. Imagine the first thing in this world that you see being ruddy Pip. 🐄

Bruisername · 12/02/2024 19:43

Rubbish and pip. Don’t think I’ll listen

can anyone give a very short précis of points that may be relevant. Or was it ll pointless

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/02/2024 19:50

It was all pointless.

Some of it was nasty as well.

Bruisername · 12/02/2024 19:51

Definitely not listening then!!!

Sidebeforeself · 12/02/2024 20:09

We might as well keep talking about Leeds then!

Bruisername · 12/02/2024 20:14

I’ve never been. Any tips?

Sidebeforeself · 12/02/2024 20:28

Royal Armories free fantastic museum
Take a water taxi
Do the Owl Trail or a tour of the many fantastic murals
Wander through the many arcades
…but its looking scruffy these days. Like many high streets lots of empty units

Bruisername · 12/02/2024 20:34

That’s sad. Any dog friendly tips?

son is into all things military so the armories sounds good

Sidebeforeself · 12/02/2024 20:37

Im sure a dog would love the water taxi!! Your son might like a walk around Granary Wharf to see the dark arches too. I don’t have a dog so not best placed to give advice but lots of nice green areas around the outskirts of the city eg Roundhay Park.

Sidebeforeself · 12/02/2024 20:37

Ooh Corn Exchange too! Ill stop derailing the thread now..sorry

Bruisername · 12/02/2024 20:43

Hang on, can you get Chorley cakes in Leeds?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/02/2024 21:12

Johnnie grew up in Leeds and his mother and stepfather still live there. That's the only Leeds connection I can think of to TA.

Tonight’s ep was truly dire.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 12/02/2024 23:27

Chaps. I’m off Mumsnet for Lent (like @Fink I gather), so I shall say goodbye for a few weeks. Also taking a break because my mental health has taken a nose dive and less time on the internet, especially soon scrolling social media at night when I should be asleep, is desirable.

PND is just the worst. It’s like over the last year my brain has gone from something that makes me interesting and brilliant and desirable, to something that is actively trying to kill me.

I hope to see you all in a few weeks, deo volente. All the best.

Yes it was, and the awful thing is that I am not surprised.

Edited for typo which I only see after I post😁

Does anyone remember Tiddles - the fat cat who lived in the ladies' loos at Paddington Station? https://londonist.com/london/history/tiddles-fat-cat-paddington-station In fact I had completely forgotten until you started discussing station cats, a quick google soon found him!

Thank you, I couldn't remember the name. Absolutely ginormous

I must admit even though Pip was in it im glad there was some actual farming stuff. The practical joke was really rubbish and I thought also it went a bit too far. Yes TA is getting to be white noise in my house, sad to say.

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 13/02/2024 06:09

Take care, @AngryBirdsNoMore - if it’s not too late to say so! I hope you’ll find time for some excellent reading away from the Internet. I’d recommend Patrick White’s The Tree of Man - which does coincidentally involve farming, (in Australia) is hugely absorbing and contains possibly the funniest two or three pages in the whole history of literature in English.

Pip was actually better at the business end of a cow than when she’s doing relationship whining or daughterly whining.

But all the writing was laboured last night.

BeatriceBatchelor · 13/02/2024 06:14

I detest practical jokes. Adam is such a tool.

There's a good medical museum on the outskirts of Leeds (Thackeray?). I enjoyed it as an adult but I think it was designed for kids. You got a card when you went in with your 'character ' on it then saw various displays on Victorian medical and social issues and found out whether or not you survived.
