Apologies if this has been done before, but I'm new to this board and couldn't find anything. I look at Sounds each evening and download the programmes I want to listen to. If they're available, my downloads will always include:

Ed Reardon's Week
Any Questions/Answers?
Cabin Pressure
Questions from a Long Marriage
Electric Ink
V I Warshawski
Just One Thing
Moral Maze
Money Box
The Life Scientific
More or Less
The Archers
Inside Health
The Briefing Room
King Street Junior
Beyond Belief
Gloomsbury

What other gems am I missing please?

OP posts:

The Long View
In Our Time
More or Less
Sliced Bread
The Life Scientific
Today programme
The Briefing Room
Just One Thing
The Moral Maze
The Reith Lectures

I’ve probably missed some but pretty much the non drama programmes

Mafelicent · 04/03/2023 07:49

I'm loving unsafe space (mosty comedy) and antisocial (not). Both essentially airing opposing, and sometimes controversial, views. A nice change from instant "cancelling"

Dredel · 04/03/2023 07:49

Room 5
I listen to a lot of drama and these are my faves:
Murmurs - 10 horror shorts
Lifelines
Lusus
Tracks
Pilgrim
Tumanbay
The Hotel

I like spooky things but hate the Uncanny and Witch Farm

Reallybadidea · 04/03/2023 07:51

I've just started listening to Home Front. It was a drama set in Folkestone that the BBC ran as part of the WW1 centenary. Each episode was broadcast exactly 100 years after the events depicted, sort of weaving history and drama together. There are 4 years (!!!) worth of episodes, so plenty to keep you busy. I'm really enjoying it.

Dot

megletthesecond · 04/03/2023 08:14

It's a fair cop
More or less

Reallybadidea · 04/03/2023 08:16

Yes! Just listened to Where This Service Will...
It was so lovely, I didn't want it to end.

TottersBlankly · 04/03/2023 08:16

Home Front was so brilliant I made a pilgrimage to BBC Birmingham to hear some of the creators talk about it. IIRC it was during a period of turbulence in Archers world - and Home Front got everything right that TA got wrong. Every episode of HF had me shouting at the radio “Why can’t they do that on TA?Angry” I had high hopes that the Home Front editor, Jessica Dromgoole, might slide across the corridor to TA. No such luck.

The curious cases of Rutherford and Fry. I also really like Science in Action which is technically a world service programme but I came across it on radio 4 when I was awake in the middle of the night.

Reallybadidea · 04/03/2023 08:24

@TottersBlankly I really wish I'd been listening properly when it was first broadcast and could chat about it to other people who I know listened. Although it's great being able to binge!

TottersBlankly · 04/03/2023 08:39

I think I missed maybe half a season somewhere and lost the thread of all the intersecting narratives. Would love to start from the beginning again, one day.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/03/2023 09:12

@Reallybadidea I love where this service will end, I’ve listened to them all several times. Guilt Trip this week is also good

I listened to Home Front as it went out and also got a bit lost in all the different threads so am listening again from the beginning

Bagzzz · 04/03/2023 09:53

Very old - cabin pressure for comedy
Though I have no garden I find Gardeners Question Time soothing.

beagoldfish · 04/03/2023 10:41

More comedy, but 'That Mitchell and Webb sound' is there if you search

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/03/2023 10:43

Conversations from a Long Marriage
The News Quiz
The Briefing Room
Any Questions
The Now Show
The One with Marian Keyes, can’t remember what it’s called.

Needtobuildabridge · 04/03/2023 10:45

Can't believe Woman's Hour hasn't been mentioned yet!

Also a massive fan of all the Friday 6.30 satire comedy.

Can't believe Woman's Hour hasn't been mentioned yet!“

Haven’t enjoyed it since Jenni Murray left. Don’t bother with it anymore.

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/03/2023 12:33

I didn't listen to it much when Jenni Murray did it, although I liked Jane Garvey.
Hardly ever listen to it now, generally make a point of not hearing it.

FadedRed · 05/03/2023 20:25

People over 60 might remember and still find Round the Horne funny - Rambling Sid Rumpo and his authentic ‘olde folk songs’ and Julien and his friend Sandy…

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 05/03/2023 20:33

Cabin Pressure and Bleak Expectations reruns on 4 Extra
Round the Horne is still funny after umpteen decades.

Bonsaitoodry · 03/04/2023 22:14
  • More or Less
  • Reith Lectures
  • The Moral Maze
  • In Our Time (though varies)
  • Wireless Nights (love!)
  • The Kitchen Cabinet
  • TA
  • From Our Own Correspondent
  • Meet David Sedaris
  • The Patch (apart from the first 5 mins)
  • My Teenage Diary with Rufus Hound (can be hilarious)
  • Chinese Characters (bite sized, interesting snippets of Chinese history)

Recent listens I'd recommend:

  • Is Psychistry Working?
  • "Where this service will..."
  • Clubland

Have also got into Newscast, and I quite like Jess Gillam's This Classical Life for discovering new music (yes, I know they talk over it and don't play full pieces - some will hate it). The Listening Service is also good.
