Says it’s entirely his own decision. End of an era for me Sad

If Ken and popmaster are going, I'm going too.
I'll close the door on my way out 😉

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/01/2023 12:25

Devastated!

I hope he's not being pushed because he is definitely the best DJ on radio. I'll put up with adverts for Ken.

inappropriateraspberry · 17/01/2023 12:26

I like OJ Borg, he may be a good replacement, or Vernon Kaye. Can't stand Scott Mills. Used to live him when I was younger on R1, but he doesn't seem to realise that he has got older, and so has his audience.

faffadoodledo · 17/01/2023 12:27

I think he's been made an offer. R2 wouldn't let him go now. Not while Scott Mills is still bedding in
I know Ken is quite old school but he does a blimmin good job of engaging his audience.

Gutted and yes I will move over too like I have with Graham Norton at the weekends.

This!

I'm gutted too. I hate the adverts on commercial radio but love the ad-free Graham show

Ken Bruce really was the best thing about R2 by a country mile. Got me through lockdown. I'll always love him for that. The voice of calm, wry reason.

Deeandra · 17/01/2023 12:30

Never noticed an issue with Richie?

Odd if he was pushed. I wonder who else they'll get to fit his slot. They're terrified of losing the younger listeners but it will take more than new presenters to get young people listening to radio. In fact I don't know why they bother. It's what happens when you have a workforce that has been their for donkeys years trying to figure out what the 'youff' want without bothering to actually ask them.

I did the same with GN and yes I’ll move with Ken

Yes the ad free is great and love Maria, wish she did more of the show with him.

ParrotsAteThemAll · 17/01/2023 12:32

I’m going against the grain here and won’t be sad to see him go. Radio 2 is my go to station but I always turned off for him and Steve wright. I’ll be interested to see who replaces him.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 17/01/2023 12:32

Come oooooon OJ Borg for replacement

He's saying it was entirely his decision. His contract runs out on 31 March and he's starting with GHR on 3 April

I agree with this

Oh no, not more Maria. I can't abide her - hacking cough and cackling gives me the gip!

Zonder · 17/01/2023 12:35

Why is GN ad free? Could KB also be ad free?

I think she's hilarious! I've not noticed the cough!

They're on the edge of losing this youngish 42 year old. I hate the gabbling, and constant tedious ordinary people talking about tedious ordinary things all the time.

I like a varied blend of music across many decades, gentle, clear speech, gentle wit and a bit of intelligence.
And not adverts which is the main thing keeping me clinging on.

Fizbosshoes · 17/01/2023 12:43

Boo. I love Ken Bruce and pop master.
I much prefer Scott Mills to Steve Wright. I was hoping Jeremy Vine would be next to go

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 12:45

Whether through BBC 'revamps', people being pushed or (apparently) leaving of their own accord, Radio 2 will no longer be Radio 2 without Ken. All the old guard will have gone.

I know his popularity is somewhat mixed, but I wonder if Jeremy Vine will stick around on R2 for a lot longer. I like him (for his faults), but I wonder if he might be losing his mojo a bit. Lunchtime is a bit of a restrictive slot, when he could just focus on his daytime show on Channel 5 - which he always seems to find a lot more fun and freer and easier - and then have the afternoons to himself.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 12:47

If/when Jeremy does go, either Tina Daheeley or Paddy O'Connell would be great replacements - they've both been very good at it when covering for Jezza's holidays.

LizzieSiddal · 17/01/2023 12:48

I heard him making the announcement and was so sad to hear this. He’s one of the only presenters left who doesn’t endlessly talk about themselves, he’s such a generous host and plays great music. I too followed GN to Virgin and will follow KB.

Kenwoodmixitup · 17/01/2023 12:52

Another one hanging onto R2 simply because ad free but they’re testing my loyalty.

Another vote for Paddy O’Connell or Tina Daheeley for the lunchtime slot.

OJ on day time - any slot will do me.

BBC have also been trying out Patrick Kealty and Cat Deeley. Wonder if they’ll become more of a presence.

Gary Davis - his shouty presentation- please God, no.

feellikeanalien · 17/01/2023 13:00

Oh well that's my last reason for listening to Radio 2 gone. Guess it's going to be Radio Newcastle for me. Can't stand adverts on the radio.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 17/01/2023 13:00

OJ Borg would be great but sadly I think Gary Davies is more likely.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 13:05

Don't Patrick and Cat live in the USA now? Either way, if they do get Cat on there, don't expect to hear any Snow Patrol (fellow fans of Fake Showbiz News)!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 13:06

Do people remember the big R2 celebrations on Ken's 70th birthday? That so clearly had very little to do with somebody happening to have lived for seven decades and everything to do with honouring an absolute national treasure.

When Terry Wogan signed off his final breakfast show, I remember Ken's first sad, emotional comment being "We will not see the likes of him again". Exactly the same with you, Ken Sad
