I know many of us love him. He's just made me pause in the kitchen as he so carefully read out the names of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. So respectfully done. Poor, poor people.

He is brilliant. I love the way he asks all the difficult questions without being aggressive and interrupting all the time. He just asks the question and waits for the answer, following up rigorously if they do not answer.

PetiteMarseillaise · 20/11/2017 22:08

I love Eddie too! Such a good, thoughtful interviewer, with a lovely voice to match. He makes the news worth listening to.

Jenijena · 20/11/2017 22:10

I remember an interview he did with the (ordained) mother of a woman killed in the London bombings. Amazing radio.

LapdanceShoeshine · 20/11/2017 22:11

Not to be argumentative but PM isn’t the news Grin

It’s a significant point because some people complain about the “inappropriate” lightness of tone sometimes Hmm

gardeningirl · 20/11/2017 22:14

Missed today's programme but am also a big fan; I can imagine the gravity of his reading of the Grenfell names would have been really powerful.
I was captivated by his discussions with Steve Hewlett last year - such a bittersweet quality to them though. They had a peacefulness and unrushed feel even when talking about imminent death and all in the middle of rush hour.....Ugghh welling up just remembering them.

SouthWestmom · 20/11/2017 22:18

www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/comp-reports/ecu/

According to a news article it was against Today ' Which is presented by Eddie Mair' and details weren't shared. Link shows others but not that one

LizzieSiddal · 20/11/2017 22:22

Oh gosh yes garden.

Monday’s PM meant chats with Steve, both of them should win some kind of award for their conversations. It could have been so mawkish but they were the opposite. I still think of Steve when the media show come on.Sad

topcat2014 · 20/11/2017 22:24

I was listening to all the names whilst driving - particularly noticed the whole family names listed - and also, I am guessing, the bulk of names being from ethnic groups. Powerful stuff.

Particularly as DBil is a firefighter in London.

Not to be argumentative but PM isn't the news

I don't think any of us thinks it is? But it is a 'news and current affairs programme' which is exactly how (for example) Today is described. It's Eddie that makes it special. I'm sorry to say that I'm always a bit sad when Carolyn Quinn presents (not that she isn't good - she's just not Eddie).

Found the complaint

LapdanceShoeshine · 20/11/2017 22:29

Vango previous poster said “he makes the news worth listening to”!

SparklingSnowfall · 20/11/2017 22:32

I heard this in the car the other day, so respectful & beautifully done.

TimFromRuislip · 20/11/2017 22:33

I rarely end up listening to PM, just because of my schedule but when I do it is great. I must subscribe to the podcast, if there is one. Joining the Eddie Mair fan club!

LapdanceShoeshine · 20/11/2017 22:34

@Noeuf that’s very interesting!

I heard recently that the upheld complaint was against Eddie, & so did 64Boo.

SouthWestmom · 20/11/2017 22:39

I think that's just the reporting tbh. On the official list the detail isn't listed (not the first one linked, the one I added) . In the press it was reported as ' Which is presented by Eddie Mair' so I suspect the two have merged and its the Hugh Sykes complaint. I had to hunt for the instigator s of the complaint. Unless there's a massive coincidence but i doubt it.

Vango · 20/11/2017 22:40

Ah. I read the comment as "the news" (small n) rather than "The News" (programme) Lapdance Grin

Yes i love Eddie, he does some really interesting interviews - though missed today's program.

Did anyone hear his broadcast announcing the death of Teddy Taylor, MP? It's fair to say I don't think he was a fan. He managed to find out that he was a panellist on the first ever Question Time - and played a bit of him airing some appalling views about capital punishment, then still very much practised in schools.
Having played the clip Eddie was his usual deadpan self saying 'Teddy Taylor, who died today'. I did wonder if he got in trouble for that.

sagamartha · 24/11/2017 22:46

He is great. I missed the Grenfell fire piece but I can only imagine how powerful it was.

(I was interviewed by him once for IPM about 4 years ago. He was lovely on the phone0

Agustarella · 24/11/2017 22:55

I do wish the programme was a bit more serious and engaged more with issues, but he is a very personable and funny presenter with a lovely voice. He seems like someone who would be really interesting to get to know in real life.

mabelchiltern · 24/11/2017 23:02

Best voice on R4 by far

mabelchiltern · 24/11/2017 23:05

Btw women's hour is dead to me if Emma Barnett is presenting. Jane Garvey is far superior imhumble o

TheFallenMadonna · 24/11/2017 23:12

Having listened to John Humphries interviewing an academic about dowsing the other morning, PM seemed quite heavyweight in comparison Hmm

The reading of the names of the people who died in the Grenfell Tower fire was extraordinarily powerful. Beautifully handled by the PM team.
