Yes, he's a nice doctor.

Amazing guy. He talked very calmly about the incredibly difficult decisions he had to make in such a matter of fact manner. I was a bit [shocked] when he relayed the story about drilling on the wrong side of that guy's head though!

He's a truly amazing man. I googled him after listening - they called him the Indiana Jones of Surgery which is really cool, I'm really quite smitten.

They played that bit about him feeding the corgis with the Queen on PM. That reflects well on HMQ, I thought.

Such a moving programme. I was in tears when he explained why he'd chosen the Coldplay song. Amazing man.

I think this is possibly the best Desert Island Discs I've ever heard. I listened to it on podcast twice! Brilliant.

Ooh me too 'coffee, when he was talking about the little 7yr old girl he made the decision to stay with, and when he was talking about his Ellie. What a lovely, amazing but, humble man. DH and I were in the car and we were both 'had bad hay fever'. Plus I love that Coldplay song - esp the NHS choir version of it (which he didn't play but I love it more). A wonderful Desert Island Discs.

I had something in my eye a few times - it was incredibly moving. He obviously found it all so hard to talk about - Kirsty was as lovely as ever.

I made DH listen to it when he got back from work - it was both harrowing and inspirational, Even he shed a tear. The 7yr old girl was particularly moving - I just can't imagine having to make that sort of decision. He really does have nine lives.

What with this and "The Boy Who Gave His Heart Away" radio 4 has had me crying all week!

I also listened last Sunday and was also incredibly moved. When he told the story tab out deciding to remain operating on a 6yo Palestinian girl even though the hospital was about to be blown up, I completely lost it.

Isn't DID just a wonderful programme? So often it throws up gems like this with people I'd never heard of. Or it brings something new and extraordinary out of people I've heard a thousand times before, like Tom Hanks a couple of weeks back.

Thank god for bbc radio. Please don't let this government dismantle it.

For DID fans, can I recommend the Kenneth Williams episode from the archive? My cheeks hurt by the end of it....

I just listened to this and feel quite choked up. He's so deeply affected by his experiences, but carries on. Amazing. Lovely story about the Queen as well - this was picked up by the German media which is how I heard about the programme.

I agree BOOP, all sorts of gems and fascinating people I'd never previously heard of on DID (although I did know of David Nott).

Sunday morning is my time for 'me' maintenance - I do my mani, pedi, eyebrows, lip wax etc while listening to The Archers Omnibus, followed by DID - heaven

Haven't listened to any from the archive so far though, might do that but I didn't like the style Kirsty Young's predecessor.
