And want a newbie thread ?

I started this holiday. There's loads that makes no sense at all.

OP posts:
Scarydinosaurs · 05/09/2015 19:38

Meh, she isn't vicious, or spiteful. She's incredibly hard on herself and yes, that can be frustrating (I remember shouting at the radio when she was pregnant) but ultimately, she means well.

JessieMcJessie · 07/11/2015 09:28

She was vicious and spiteful to Hayley when John died.

But I like her too, on the whole.

TeaAndCake · 07/11/2015 22:33

Ugh. I can't fecking stand Helen or any of the Bridge Farm Lot.

They're all so bloody sanctimonious and I second Jessie. The way they treated Hayley at the time of John's death was appalling. The way Tom treated Kirsty when he cheated on her to further his sausage empire. Tony is a miserable bastard (although the new actor is not quite as irritating).

Pat redeemed herself in my eyes a little though when she stood up in court for Kathy's rape trial.
God, I can't stand 'em.

All that said I do have some sympathy for Helen's current situation. The scriptwriters have done a bloody brilliant job on this one and have played the long game beautifully.

Fink · 09/11/2015 11:22

Meh, I don't mind Helen. Can't say I really like her but she's ok. I really didn't like her at the time of Greg, but as this is a thread for newbies, we won't go there.

maybemyrtle · 15/11/2015 10:04

Right. I listened regularly up until about six months ago (change of circs). Can someone pls bring me up to speed with the Rob/Helen situation? He was obviously a bad 'un and the last thing I remember was his sweet ex wife turning up preggers, but I gather things have moved on...

Gruach · 16/11/2015 14:06

I'm new!!!!

After a thread on chat a couple of months ago suggesting you give it a try, I added it to my podcasts. I've just spent the last week listening to a backlog from September.

I'm still struggling to remember the voices. This last week I've discovered the BBC Profiles of each character which has helped, but the best thing ever was discovering the MN thread and reading the whole thing on a Friday afternoon at work so much more makes sense now.

As I'm so new to it, my main focus has been Helen and Rob, 'Date night' was one of the first episodes I heard and I've disliked him since then, but finding the MN thread and realising I was right to be suspicious - he's awful - has pleased me no end!

Gruach · 16/11/2015 14:58

Welcome Shiraz - you've put in a lot of homework.

So d'you think you're committed now?Grin

Gruach · 16/11/2015 15:02

If you're ever very bored at work (for about six months) you could try reading the entire archive of, I think 37 threads in the current "official" MN Archers thread series.

ShirazSavedMySanity · 16/11/2015 15:53

I'm definitely commuted now Gruach

Gruach · 16/11/2015 16:05

This

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/1740045-Why-is-Lillian-allowing-this-to-happen?msgid=38666793

is the first of the current, lifechangingingly wonderful Archers series. (Other Archers threads are available - but so many, so short, so disorganised ...) Pseudobadger is our esteemed thread starter and always links to the next thread when we're close to 1000 posts.

Enjoy!

cosmicglittergirl · 17/12/2015 09:29

Excited to have found this thread with the tips and links. Think I'm going to use the Christmas holiday to get into the Archers, have been dipping in and out for years.

songbird · 17/12/2015 14:59

cosmic this is where many of us are currently discussing TA.

[sinister voice] Come joooiiiin uuuus.......

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 17/12/2015 15:10

My M&D have been telling me to listen about the Archers for years, I think the worst way to get someone me to do something is to tell me to do it.
These MN archers threads sort of make me want to listen but then I just think I'll never keep up with what's going on. I don't really watch telly or soaps so I am not good with keeping track of plot.
But... since there's a newbie thread, I'm tempted again... I won't stick out like such a massive Arch-noob if I'm on a noon thread!

songbird · 17/12/2015 15:56

Gawd no, you'll be welcome on the 'addicts' threads as well. Some members like nothing better than to show off their superior knowledge to newbies Wink.

If I've missed a lot, or don't want to listen for whatever reason (horrid domestic abuse SL at the mo) I keep up on this website.

EasyToEatTiger · 20/12/2015 09:50

I've been listening to TA for years on and off. They all sound the same and I still have no idea really who's who apart from Lynda Snell. Helen seems to just roll over and die at any opportunity and Rob is only recogniseable because he is such a shit stirrer.

OliviaMumsnet · 22/12/2015 14:34

Is OP still listening?

Stickerrocks · 22/12/2015 17:49

Brenda has moved to join the rest of us Olivia.

RiverWhy · 06/01/2016 20:17

I am a returnee to the Archers....big fan many many moons ago when Lizzie was jilted by the dastardly cameron.

Here in the newbie thread as I didnt want to interlope on the current thread but I do have a question about the episode tonight...what is the history between Helen and Ian, he called her a piece of work, can I have some backstory please.

LillianGish · 06/01/2016 21:51

River get on over to the other thread - no need to be shy, friendliest thread on Mumsnet. To answer yr question, Helen saw Adam and Charlie snogging at new year party last year. She didn't tell Ian, asked Adam about it ( he assured her it was just a drunken snog), but made the schoolboy error of confiding in Knob who saved it up until the night before Adam and Ian's wedding to spill the beans.
