Sack the Sock - put a sock in it or pull your socks up - frankly we're a bit sick of it. The Archers is shit, discuss it here.

I have it on good authority that this is the thread that people enjoy more than the programme it's about Grin

Ahem. We've agreed in the past that the main thread will be spoiler-free so there is another thread for spoilers. Some of you may be interested in what I've just posted there. It's in Radio Addicts.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 16/01/2015 12:44

SERIOUSLY NO FRIGGING SPOILERS FOR THE ARCHERS!
People post them for stuff on the telly and then I have to see them to remove them for others but OMG don't post any spoilers for the Archers.
ShockSadShockSad
KEEP THEM TO THE OTHER THREADS.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 16/01/2015 12:53

We'll do our level best to keep the other thread very well-behaved, Olivia.

nauticant · 16/01/2015 13:47

BTW what's a spoiler? Does it include events in a broadcast episode that some people might not have listened to yet or is it purely about yet-to-be-broadcast events?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 16/01/2015 13:53

I always assume that anybody who doesn't want to know what happened in the evening broadcast will avoid this thread till they've caught up. That's what I do.

ZeroFunDame · 16/01/2015 13:55

If we had to wait until everyone (known and unknown, posters and non-posters and sometime posters) who might possibly read the thread had confirmed that they had listened to the latest episode -

  • wouldn't it all be a bit slow? And rather vague?

Me too - usually listen a bit later after DS bedtime. Can't wait for CSA telling Rob where to go and how to get there ... better be soon, can't leave that one dangling too long ... can they?

formerly posting as alisonm2013

ZeroFunDame · 16/01/2015 14:00

I actually don't feel that the BBC snippets for coming episodes are proper spoilers - but other people do so I try my best to avoid putting them here.

The main problem with reading ahead now is that one is bound to be disappointed with the broadcast episodes. We can all do so much better in our own heads.

enochroot · 16/01/2015 14:00

How easy is it to sell paintings? Would he just pawn them? (at the same pawnshop where Ed pawned whatever he pawned.)

New thread title suggestion:
'Archers fans demand the return of Tiger in good condition.' with Alison's Eye of the Tiger line.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 16/01/2015 14:02

I listen in as close to RL as I can (used to be an omnibus gal)
but no a spoiler is next week xxx shags yy or whatever
VEH common in the mainstream soaps as all they're filmed so far in advance and also a lot of the lead-times on the TV guides/women's mags are at least 6 weeks so you get them much more often.
Quite aside from half the production teams being on other tv forums and bean-spilling as far as I can see.
Corrie spoiler? Whatever.

But NOT with the Archers. Please.
As you were

I am a bit behind this week.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/01/2015 14:06

What have I missed that was spoilery? If it was "I'm really not looking forward to the episode when Brian is abducted by aliens" I'm pretty sure nauticant was joking...

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 16/01/2015 14:09

Nothing, Elephants. Olivia is hyperventilating at the thought she might see on in the course of her duties.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/01/2015 14:16

There, there, my pretty. Auntie Bore has made a lovely spoiler thread to avoid you being upset by learning that Elizabeth is going to shag the vicar next Tuesday.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/01/2015 14:17

Ahhhhh I seeeee. Don't worry, Olivia. Why not ask one of your office pals to make you a cup of camomile tea and fetch a Danish pastry while you have a nice sit down? :)

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/01/2015 14:18

btw, I'm joking Olivia!

Please don't hit me with the BanHammer!

ZeroFunDame · 16/01/2015 14:25

Ooooooh - Elizabeth and Alan?

That'll be fab!

Elizabeth did once say that Alan is "a really sexy man ..."

Think it was when Usha was at the beginning of her relationship with him. She was encouraging her.

So - now that she's bored ...

Grin
ZeroFunDame · 16/01/2015 14:48

Ok - I have something serious to say now.

I'm listening to the Afternoon Play. It's rather good. One or two of the voices were vaguely familiar. Looked up the cast list.

Main part - Emerald O'Hanrahan. Current Emma

Everyone is finding new jobs.

PetulaGordino · 16/01/2015 15:05

The continuity announcer tends to read the following day's snippet so at that point I don't think it could be viewed as a spoiler

TopazRocks · 16/01/2015 15:17

Actually I knew it wasn't Panama. It was just a lazy/careless joke about fraudulent canoeists! At least, as Puss and Tiger aren't married, some of Lil's finances will be safe. I assume the Dower House is in her name only as it was when she bought it. I am less sure of the situation where a business is shared though? esp. if it is now in trouble. All a bit of a mess, it would seem, wherever and why Matt is.

I'd hope the SW wouldn't have lovely Usha cheated on again - and by an Archers sister. That would be far too much, surely. As for Matt, he does have previous for cheating. Lillian was the OW when he was still married to a woman with a French name. Even though Lillian has now cheated on Matt. Indeed a mess. Though that's why there is believability on the way these characters have been portrayed thus far, so I hope it continues.

dairyfarmerswife · 16/01/2015 16:30

For those who were asking up thread about supporting British dairy farmers the National Farmers Union has some tips about making sure you buy British www.nfuonline.com/back-british-farming/backing-british-dairy/shopping-guide-for-backing-british-dairy/?utm_campaign=one-million&utm_source=fb&utm_medium=social. (I don't think this is the link I posted before.)

In particular watch out for cheese produced elsewhere but packaged in the UK, which could still have Union Jack on it. Smile

RocknRollNerd · 16/01/2015 17:15

I wouldn't read to much into Emerald O'H having another acting job, she does quite a lot in theatre when she's not Emmuring and has always done so.

Re Fraudulent Canoeists this hotel is a few doors down from where the guy hid out - they fly a Panamanian Flag in the car park and you might notice they renamed their restaurants Shock. It's also the place where Cleveland CID had their Christmas Party one year and it got somewhat out of hand and their on duty uniformed colleagues had to be called Shock Shock.

Another one who will be unhappy if they kill off/sock it to Matt. I do wholeheartedly agree that Kate is very much a BOOP.

We have our milk delivered in bottles by a local Dairy - they buy the milk in from somewhere else but it is all UK based. For me it was convenience, neither DH nor I drink it so when DS was old enough to need milk I figured we'd better have a reliable supply. Visitors always go on a bit of a nostalgia trip when they see it as it has the cream at the top - BIL always asks for 'top of the milk' on his cereal when they stay. Plus the guy who delivers it is awesome and looks like a long lost member of ZZ Top!

nauticant · 16/01/2015 17:19

when she's not Emmuring

Shouldn't that be when she's demmurring?
