Sack the Sock - put a sock in it or pull your socks up - frankly we're a bit sick of it. The Archers is shit, discuss it here.

I have it on good authority that this is the thread that people enjoy more than the programme it's about Grin

GypsyFloss · 08/01/2015 21:03

Love it. I too am rather fond of Oklahoma and sang along Grin

Theas18 · 08/01/2015 21:06

Totally channelling Ab Fab this evening, even down to the " ill got and put some more parking money on the car"!

GypsyFloss · 08/01/2015 21:08

Indeed minklundy and given that the Dopeys have insisted all along that they are doing it for the future of their children then perhaps the siblings will insist that that a sale must go ahead as they too wish to ensure the future of their children is secured. The Dopeys might find themselves leaving Ambridge whether they like it or not!

LillianGish · 08/01/2015 21:13

Or Heatherpet could sohmc so then there really would be no point moving.

EBearhug · 08/01/2015 21:16

She's created this perfect world and she wants it to be exactly as she imagined - which is why she has had to change so much.

She hasn't changed that much - she's always wanted this, a perfect family. She ignored the warning signs with Greg, too. I know he wasn't abusive and manipulative in the same way as Rob, but he was hardly the perfect man she built him up to be, either. And don't forget that her determination to control her world meant she was anorexic at one point.

Totally agree that everything that's gone wrong in the shop is down to Rob, and he's not going to be impressed that she's decided to keep a closer eye on things, after he told her they should discuss things before she takes action in future.

LillianGish · 08/01/2015 21:18

Actually I'm beginning to think I can almost forgive Sock for the preposterous non-move for all the discontent it will stir up. Jill moving out - possibly taking Phil's piano with her, the Dopey's having alienated all their friends and customers and now having to stay to face the music, the siblings having all mentally spent their money now feeling utterly resentful and, in Kenton's case, in debt. Fallon's plans shelved after she was banking on a windfall. And the Dopey's themselves feeling thoroughly unsettled and discontented - possibly hankering after a robotic parlour they will now never be able afford.

GypsyFloss · 08/01/2015 21:26

Ok I can go with the scenario. It's just a shame that we've got identikit bots to voice these changes.

PseudoBadger · 08/01/2015 21:30

Was it only me who sensed some chemistry between the robotic woman and Pip? Maybe Spencer is history for a different reason...

OP posts:
Bluestocking · 08/01/2015 21:36

Too right, Pseudo, all that talk about teats! I reckon Pip has a sapphic gleam in her eye.

minklundy · 08/01/2015 21:45

If heatherpet does sohmc i can see much amusement in kenton telling them the move up north is still a good idea. And then DnR will be furious he wants the money more than them. But they won't go.

minklundy · 08/01/2015 21:47

And Jill will already have got rid of the bees and piano...
And then Kenton will have to say Dave. mate. You know I love you really. Will you pay my credit card bill?

LillianGish · 08/01/2015 21:55

Yes it's quite clear the siblings do want the money and what it can buy them more than they want David and Ruth to stay around. The only person sad about the move is Jill - no material gain for her - but even she has sorted herself out by palling up with Carol and moving in with Shula. In fact the move being called off might prove even more divisive than the announcement that the Dopeys were thinking of moving in the first place.

ZeroFunDame · 08/01/2015 22:10

Impressed with the show tunes.Grin

But not impressed with the current two dimensional portrayal of Jolene. She's generally seemed quite sensible (when not distracted by leather fringing) - I don't believe she would be so ready to spend money she hasn't seen.

And I definitely don't think she'd be keen to return to the places where her second husband died and her third was nearly drowned ...

CuttedUpPear · 08/01/2015 22:15

Isn't Alan's daughter from the Isle of Lesbos?
Or am I thinking of someone else?
Dreaming of a cosy set up for her and Pip....

nauticant · 08/01/2015 22:27

Was it only me who sensed some chemistry between the robotic woman and Pip?

I put this down to my imagination but noted that the man in Fran's life seemed to be her brother. Was any DP referred to?

R4 · 08/01/2015 22:29

Fran was another unnecessary character. Absolutely no need for listeners to go on the visit it could easily have been discussed or relayed in some other (briefer) way.

BOOPpoint: we didn't have to attend JD's party, that was relayed. Though it does seem a bit weird to have conversations with Unnecessaries but not with Friends&Family eg Tiger, Neil'n'Susan, Chris, etc.
I was half-hoping that Debbie would put in a surprise appearance.

PhaedraIsMyName · 08/01/2015 22:45

Oh I agree I think we will hear more from Fran, especially if the sale falls through.

They really laboured that she lives with her brother.

PhaedraIsMyName · 08/01/2015 22:48

The visit was pointless and excruciatingly dull apart from the odd dairy farmer or 2 who might have been listening. Ergo, it was inserted for a reason.

LillianGish · 08/01/2015 22:48

R4 - that is precisely my objection. There are some fabulous characters who have been silenced while bland, insignificant nobodies make guest appearances for scenes which we don't need to hear and could be easily reported.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/01/2015 22:49

She sounded like she should e riding ponies rather than milking cows.

Maybe she nd her brother will be an incest story. We must be due one of those

LillianGish · 08/01/2015 22:50

Phaedra once I might have believed that, but with the Sock in charge I'm not so sure.

minklundy · 08/01/2015 23:37

I thought it was to fulfill their farming info quota: robotic milking

Cons: expensive, farmers might miss cows
Pros: increased yields (12%), decreased mastitis(50%), less standing around

  • lasers

With additional slurry pit costings.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/01/2015 23:40

Did you mention the lasers?

Dropped mastitis rates. But you don't get to know your cow.

And the lasers?

(What's the point of the lasers remembering the year position for next time if te year position changes everytime? Seemed a bit too fancy pants)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/01/2015 23:41

Teat not year

I obviously don't write about teats enough
