If I like Cabin Pressure, what other radio comedy should I check out?

Sort of a radio spin-off question -- have greatly enjoyed having the Cabin Pressure CDs in the car because they are great for long journeys and everyone who tends to be awake in the car (me, DH and 9yo DS) finds them very funny (and even younger DCs appreciate some of the broader jokes).

But there are only four series (pending this Christmas's final special) and I wondered what other series I've missed and we'd enjoy. Somewhere around here I have a CD set of the first series of Old Harry's game but I wasn't sure how child-friendly that would be. Any other suggestions?

The fallen My DD2 does, too! Grin We live in a place where there are swans. Imagine the hilarity every time we drive over the bridge by which they congregate... DD2's current favourite Mr GB-ism is 'have you ever been to India? (no) Then this is a genuinely authentic Indian accent'. However obviously she can't use that one outside the home in case people think she is being RUDE. She once referred to strontium and pearium in a science lesson. And didn't get the response for which she was aiming. Grin

"Then startle the mouse" is DS(12)'s favourite line.

Oft repeated at Christmas with the multibird roast adverts...

Has anyone mentioned Gloomsbury yet? I've always thought it was very good.

I think Elvenquest, and Fags, Mags and Bags are the best.

I laughed myself silly when DS got a super soaker and an electronic dinosaur for his birthday.

But CP is fantastic.

The lemon is in play!

I liked the Wordsmiths of Gorsemere, but I don't think that's been on for ages.

Not so keen on Bleak Expectations, but it's not so bad I turn it off. That I save for Count Arthur Strong and Down the Line. (We already have Any Answers, isn't that enough?)

"Revolting People", "The Consultants", "Deep Trouble" might also give a lot of enjoyment.

Like others, I've also enjoyed "The Castle", "Old Harry's Game", Milton Jones, and "The Unbelievable Truth". Some of the guests on "The Museum of Everything" come up with really unexpected items!

I guess you might want to listen through some of those in case of more adult themes, or for any bad/ questionable language... though suspect more "racy" suggestions in The Castle might not get picked up.

For adults only because of the setting being a morgue, "Rigor Mortis" was another R4 show I can recommend.

Oh, the Museum of Everything episode with John Blashford-Snell was fab!

Agreed, EBearhug on switching of "Count Arthur", DtL, and in my case (because I think they ran out of good material), "Ed Reardon's Week" and "Fags, Mags and Bags".

'switching off'

Very disappointed in those of you who do not warm to the ineffable Count Arthur!
OP, have you tried your DS on any of the classic series that R4Extra broadcasts? You could try Hancock's Half Hour, Round the Horne, The Navy Lark for starters.
You never stop playing Yellow Car!

dp and i do the gift shop sound when we are at museums

"shall we have a look in the gift shop ?"

Oh yes, I knew that really. I go to too many museums, they're all getting confused in my head. Grin

My mistake - was thinking of Curiosity, but from a web description of Everything, feel sure I remember the odd sound effects here and there.

Oh, dear... Brent. I posted back in February as it was on my "fail" list :)

Hmm... (based on single episode sample, admittedly) if the innuendo in The Castle goes over their heads, doesn't that mean that around 80% of the programme goes over their heads Grin? I'm enjoying it, but I don't fancy the amount of explaining-what-I'm-sniggering-at I'd have to do if I put it on on a family road trip. It will do nicely for trips unencumbered by children, though.

My chances of getting DS to listen to radio stuff at home are limited, I think - I manage to indoctrinate him better when he's a captive audience in the car. So 4 Extra probably isn't a practical option without doing hideously illegal options for getting it onto iPod. I like the idea of classic series, though - I know that back in the dawn of time before I met DH I had a bunch of classic radio CDs but I don't remember seeing them since I moved in 17 years ago (and we've moved house since then...)

Another suggestion... Alex Horne and band... Forget the proper title but great and full of super puns....

And has anyone mentioned John finnemore's souvenir programme?? An obvious suggestion as he wrote cabin pressure!

Nice to see so many CP fans around Grin

Have you thought about going very old school? Radio shows like The Goon Show, Round the Horne, The Navy Lark, I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again are classics and don't, IMHO, date.

The lemon is in play Wink

Ooh, belatedly marking my place. We are just listening to CP over and over again in the absence of anything else which compares.
I just love it soooo much! Bizarrely, so do dd (8) and ds (6). They quote from it all the time Grin. As an aside, isn't Roger Allam just fab? In everything! Loved him in Endeavour.

Trying to think of my favourite line. Possibly 'Weasels King Henry...? 'Hedgehog O'brien...?' or 'Jelly Babies to manual'.

Hello... Just feel I should be on this thread somehow... Going to check out some of these suggestions, probably starting with Souvenir Programme!

We enjoyed playing yellow car in New York...well I did anyway. The dc think I'm insane.

Did anyone else hear CP tonight? Xinzhou. Fizz buzz 'ave a banana. Here I am don't tread on me. Baby chicken, baby lamb. Martin's shirt smelled of bacon because Douglas used his travel iron to cook some bacon in his hotel room. I was in seventh heaven.
