Apart from the delight that Brian and Jenny were feeling about putting 8 year old Ruarhi in boarding school does anyone know if Ofsted do inspect private schools? I didn't think that happened, but Brian mentioned Ofsted reports. maybe another badly researched storyline.

Well, being charitable, he may have used it as a loose synonym for inspection reports. If he'd said ISI report half the audience would have been saying 'What?' And actually, thanks to the power of the internet, I've just found out that Ofsted does inspect all boarding schools.

Oh well bang goes my query on the Archer website but thanks for finding out

Very funny - Jenny rapidly coming round to the idea of getting rid of her rival's child to a boarding school 'to stop him missing out on after school activities'.

I bet that Ian and Adam will kick up a fuss.

I think their doing it so that he'll lose that ridiculous accent Grin

LondonMother · 13/05/2011 15:45

Yes, what a farce that accent is! It's got stronger with time, in spite of having no exposure to anyone from the south of Ireland at all day to day.

AnyoneforTurps · 13/05/2011 19:58

You're being a bit harsh on Jenny - Brian foisted his lovechild on her & expected her to do all the childcare. In revenge, she has been surreptiously encouraging Ruarhi to retain his accent so that he will always be linguistically stigmatised as Not One of Them. Grin

LondonMother · 14/05/2011 08:45

Now that's the most convincing argument I've heard so far, AnyoneforTurps!

ppeatfruit · 14/05/2011 11:09

Also notice that up till yesterday lunch(i always listen to the repeat) poor little Ruarhi has not been consulted on his future education. To be fair to Brian he DOES do some of the care (in a typically male way!)

NorkilyChallenged · 14/05/2011 11:15

This did make me incredibly sad

blossomtrees · 14/05/2011 11:29

Jennifer drives me daft with her "oh darlings".

GrendelsMum · 14/05/2011 17:56

Brian swans in, looks after him for 30 mins at a time, and then foists him off on anyone he can find, from Lilian to his grandma.

Noted that it was Jenny who even bothered to pretend she would miss him.

He'd be better off with Ian and Adam, I reckon.

Northernlurker · 14/05/2011 18:12

It was always a bollocks storyline. VW said at the time that it came out that though they didn't actually know of any 60 year old women happily bringing up their dh's lovechild, 'lots' of men were raising children they hadn't fathered Hmm
Sending the sprog to private school is actually the most 'in character' thing about the storyline. Brian went to a private school. Kate did till she got chucked out didn't she? Alice definately did as well.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/05/2011 18:19

I think its a totally predictable storyline and am not surprised that Jennifer is so keen albeit in a very suppressed way.

Poor little boy - I mean Brian is semi-retired so why he couldn't do some of the longer school runs or why they don't seem to be even considering weekly boarding because the weekends going go-karting would be so much fun Hmm

sue52 · 15/05/2011 19:28

Poor little boy is being lined up for abandonment issues and separation anxiety.

campion · 19/05/2011 20:37

Just as well Brian isn't married to Maria Shriver, eh?
